Comment:
Sister Paulsen is a great teacher. I was hesitant about taking an honors writing class, but she really helped me to feel comfortable. She has a discussion-based teaching style and keeps your attention the entire time. I looked forward to going to class each day that I had it. I would recommend her to anyone looking to really improve their writing.

Comment:
Deirdre Paulsen did a terrible job of explaining our assignments and then got angry at us for doing things wrong. I learned more about her expectations in her after-class explanatory emails then I did during class, especially because we often used what seemed like entire class-periods listening to her stories.

I know she is vague in her assignments and lectures are possibly the least structured thing you'll encounter, but her syllabus is rocking (the reading assignments are incredibly edifying AND entertaining), everything she assigns will make you a better writer if you let it, and she is really helpful during her office hours and quite understanding.

Don't take a class from her if you can possibly avoid it. She is unclear about what she expects and assigns way too much. We would often have 5 small assignment over the weekend that had little to do with the class. She does let you revise any assignment, but that really just adds to the inhumane amount of work.

I had to drop out of her class and recieve a withdrawl because of the unrealistic amount of work related to the class. She acts like her class is the only class you have. She is also very unclear when she gives you assignments. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. I've never had a more disorganized teacher. Unclear assignments followed by mass emails demanding that we all revise (but...revise WHAT?). WASTED CLASS TIME like crazy. Tons of required publishing fairs. Name dropper. She expects you to have no life. Worst teacher I have ever had. HANDS DOWN.

She gives a lot of work, but after taking her class I know how to write well. She gives you as many chances as you need to do it write. Great teacher if you go with an attitude of wanting to learn!

She constantly gives you essays with very vague directions. Every day you have another essay due. However, she grades pretty easily. She doesn't teach you anything during class and the classes are normally very boring

Dierdre was amazing to take from my first semester at BYU. She gave me confidence in my writing that I never had before. I loved that she encouraged us to publish. After the first month of a heavy amount of work, the last 3 months of the semester we cruised and had a lot of fun. Definitely worth it.

Very demanding class, but worth it. This is college, so she definitely expects you to work hard. The work load is large but manageable. She allows rewrites for papers, so if you don't get the grade you want the first time, you can keep revising. If I learned anything at all, I learned how to manage my time.

STAY AWAY. Ridiculous amounts of homework. 4 weeks in, it has already taken over my freshman year. Talks about folklore. She is unclear about assignments. That bothers me.

I would have to agree with what's already been said. She's super nice, but kind of expects you to have no life and to be as obsessed with folklore as she is. She loved name-dropping, sending emails, and wasting class time that could have been spent clarifying our many assignments. Kind of a pointless class.

Far too many pointless assignments, ie we had to carve a soap sculpture as part of our final. I did learn some stuff, but nothing fantastic. Tons of emails from her, unclear assignments, and memos about everything. An A in this class should be worth a 5.0. Find another Honors 150 if possible.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!! Do not take this class unless you want to write papers every night, and have no life! This class is so stressful. She is not clear about assignments, gives pointless assignments, and emails constantly. Nice lady and willing to help, but this class will take over your life

The class was easy but brainless. I learned more in my 7th grade English class than I did in her Honors class, and I had to put in about 20 hours a week. It's a lot of busy work. She's a nice lady and encouraged us to publish, but none of the other people in Honors 150 said that their professors gave them much work so i'd opt for someone else.

Very challenging class. The work load is huge. Extremely fair grading system. She lets you turn in papers multiple times until you get the grade you want. Some of the assignments were kind of dumb, but if you're looking for an A that only depends on the amount of time you spend doing work, and not the difficulty thereof, this is a good class.

Taking this class was a huge mistake. She gave us so many useless assignments, and frequently, she didn't even check them in. Class attendance was mandatory but all she did was tell stories about herself the whole time. She also likes to email surprise assignments due the next morning. Don't take this class unless you are a self-loathing masochist.
