One of the best prof Yorku has to offer. At first it seemed that he'd be a hard professor but as the classes went by you could actually see it differently. Make sure to read the material he will cover in class so you can keep with him. Examquizzes and assignments pretty straightforward. Great professor I must say.

This prof has no chill. Hated every minute of this class , the man put me straight to sleep. The tests had too many m/c and the exam was based heavily on one subject. I recommend taking 1001 with a different prof

Read the textbook and attempt practice problems before class. Stynes jumps right into the hardest questions you'll see on exams from day one. Attend class. Take notes and re-write all problems he does in class afterwards (these will be on the exam). Exams are nearly identical from near to year, make sure you can solve all previous years problems.

The brightest and most experienced professor in the entire chemistry department. Whoever sais otherwise did not do their homework or did not read the textbook. His lectures are very interesting and insightful and he teaches at a proper pace. I learned a lot from taking his class and it was a pleasure to listen to his lectures.

A lot of work. But it's not too hard. He expects a lot from his students. Tests are not bad but know ideas behind everything. Know why. Don't memorize.

I always find it impressive when he doesn't use a calculator to solve a complex problem. Do the practice problems in the textbook prior to class. Go to all tutorials and don't worry so much about lectures. Tests are easy if you do his previous ones. I missed 85% of lectures and slept during the 15% I attended and managed to get an A.

This was my second time taking CHEM 1001, and Dr. Stynes' expectations are much higher than other prof's. Pay very close attention to what he reviews during lecture, and make sure you understand the principles he introduces. His practice quizzes/exams are great for practise. Work hard, and you'll be fine! Don't miss class!

This has got to be the worst prof for CHEM1001. DONT ASK HIM A QUESTION DURING LECTURE! HE WILL DEFINITELY MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE! His first and second Quizzes are terrible! He basically reads off the slides and can't solve a simple question from the textbook properly. Highly NOT recommended

Dr. Stynes is an inspiration if you have a love of chemistry. It's a shame I had to wait for 4 years before having him as a professor. He is really easy because he tells you everything you need to know! Too many people write everything down and don't LISTEN. It's really that simple. This course is the only A+ I will receive in Uni.

He goes through the material very quickly, but uses all of the extra time he's made to review and do more practice questions as a class. He provides practice exams and quizes that he takes up in the tutorial two weeks prior to the test. These are almost exactly like the real quizes and exams and are extremely helpful. A wonderful teacher.

This prof has a very good personality. Everyone thinks that other profs who laugh on your face but... are good but since prof Stynes is not laughing and is hard prof everyone thinks that he is not that perfect. He is one the best profs that chemistry department has. I wish always luck for him.

He is an old fashioned professor who expects a lot of dedication out of his students. He can be very quick in lecture but is helpful if you go to his office. If you take the course seriously and use all the resources provided to you then you can do well.

THIS PROF RULZ! VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL ALTHOUGH VERY SARCASTIC OF STUDENTS. THE COURSE IS HARD AND HE EXPECTS MORE FROM YOU. DO ALL PROBLEM SETS AND ASSIGNED QUESTIONS TRY WRITING EVERYTHING HE SAYS IN LECTURE AND UNDERSTAND THE ARTICLES HE TALKS ABOUT IN CLASS. ATTEND ALL UNOFFICIAL 8:30 TUTORIALS. THE COURSE WILL EAT YOUR TIME!

He is by far the worst prof I have ever had. His tests are Ridiculous, and so is the exam, this year it was tremendously HARD. Basically you dont know what to study for, he always rushes through material, not very helpful at all. Our class average on the 1st test was below 50, therefor he had to belcurve it. I do not recomment him AT ALL!
