Absolutely do not take this guy. He is inconsiderate of students and flat out rude. His communication skills are garbage. Doesnt return calls or anything.

Terrible. Youd think GEOG 1111 would be an easy A. It ended up being my lowest grade this semester because of this professor. Yes, I attended class all the time and studied hard, but he made the exams/material/grading as difficult as possible. All he cares about is going to Japan & not our well being. do NOT recommend.

Dr. Box has really good intentions & is a really sweet man, but he is the worst professor ive ever had. Im about to enter my final year of college & never experienced such poor teaching. He flies through his power points, lectures are very heavy and unclear. Only graded by four exams. drop the class if you dont pass the first 2.

I love his passion, but man hes confusing in his lectures. If you take notes from his extremely fast PowerPoint slides and go over the notes in the textbook he gives you, you should be fine. Dont follow what he saids because that is not on the exam.

He is very knowledgable about the content but he teaches as if it is a review and not like he is teaching it to students for the first time. If you are taking geography to get an easy A for a physical science credit, DO NOT take Elgene. There is so much material for each exam and not all of it is on the test which makes studying hard.

Dr. Box is not a bad guy or anything, just very old fashioned which might shock some people. He doesn't use ELC and grades off of few assignments. It's very important that you go to class and take detailed notes and study. I thought I could skate by by just showing up, but you really do need to put in effort here. An A is very possible though.

His class is pure lecture. I struggled from day 1 and should've dropped the class. I miss the second exam for a family emergency and my final became 60% of my grade. The only grades are 4 hard exams and people seemed to do very well or very poorly. During add drop week, if things make sense then give it a try, but if you can't grasp it drop.

Comment:
There are only 4 graded assignments; 3 tests and 1 final. If you have an A or B average on the 3 tests, and show up to class consistently, he'll let you exempt the final. However, over half of my class failed the first 2 tests. If you take him, use the information in your yellow notebook to study for tests because his lectures are too confusing.

He was very difficult to reach outside of class. He does not use email and it is really difficult to meet for office hours. He lectures every day through powerpoints that he will not put online. Also speaks really quickly so you don't get all the info down. Tests were way more specific than the lectures. Highly do not recommend, not an easy science

He doesn't post anything online and makes you go out and buy the syllabus/binder needed for the class in addition to the book that is barely helpful. He went on tangents about things that weren't on the tests and just lightly brushed over the things that were. Take anyone else!! He's no help and very rude when you ask questions.

Most people think this class will be an easy A so they don't go to class. If you go to class and just listen you will do fine. He takes attendance randomly and if you have an A or B average and attend class 50% of the time, you can exempt the final. Study hard for the exams and this class is not bad.

Professor Box is clearly passionate and knows the material inside and out. His class is very lecture heavy with only four grades, only being exams. He doesn't take regular attendance, but I would strongly advise not skipping because it's hard to catch up after missing lectures (that aren't available online).

He refuses to use ELC at all so don't go looking for any powerpoints or grades in there. He blasts through limitless topics as you struggle to keep up. He is unreachable outside of class and won't reply to emails. He'll just read off powerpoints and answer your questions. Only grades are tests. However I was on my phone every day and still got an A

Dr. Box is obviously very knowledgeable about the content, but he spends half a second on each slide and expects you to have it written down or memorized. Tests are hard. He teaches very broadly but the test questions will be extremely specific.

If you don't go to class or have someone to share notes with, then you won't pass. He gives you a notebook, but gives a lot of extra info in class through the slides (that he does not share online!!) He's a really nice guy but the course isn't easy. There is only 3 exams & a final. (fyi, take pictures of the slides in class bc he moves quickly)

Dr. Box is obviously extremely knowledgable in the field of physical geography. However, this leads him to sort of glide over the basics that students need to learn. Overall, he IS a nice guy and I think he really wants to see students succeed, but he makes this course waaaaay too difficult (its a 1100 course lol). TAKE GOOD LECTURE NOTES

Comment:
You HAVE to take notes. He says the textbook is enough but that isn't true. If you take notes/pictures of the slides and make good study guides you can very easily do well in the class. Don't take this class if you're not willing to put any effort in because you will fail. Show up to class & take the lectures seriously and you'll do very well.

Comment:
I took Box because it worked with my schedule. Don't do it. Change your schedule. He refuses to upload powerpoints to ELC because he figures that will encourage students to come to class, instead it just helps us fail. Tons of material covered at a lightning pace, very difficult to keep up unless you take pictures of the slides in real time.
