Comment:
Dr. Crystall is either an extremely slow grader or she just doesnt care enough to give grades back until the last week of class. Attendance in class is required, although many days it seemed like a waste of time, as all we did was peer edits and read over the instructions for assignments a thousand times.

Making sure you address every facet of the rubric is more important than the actual writing quality in this class. Dr. Crystall is often vague with directions or deadlines, but is usually understanding if you don't make a pattern of missing assignments. Can be light but also singles out certain students. Basically make sure you know what she wants!

Not a good professor at all. I was in her class for three weeks and had so many issues with her. She never reported my attendance, so the english department tried to drop me from the class. Decided it was better to drop the class take the W on my transcript and switch to a different professor. If you get her as a prof, do yourself a favor and drop.

Bottom line, don't take her class. She treats students in class as if they were high schoolers. She is extremely vague in what she expects from assignments and is patronizing and condescending to students. She yelled at a student for not answering her question exactly the way she wanted. She has single handedly increased my anxiety levels. Avoid.

Dr. Crystall is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's extremely passionate about the subject matter and she cares about hearing students' opinions, so she really forces you to think about what you're saying and back it up with evidence. If you're a good writer and you care about diversity and social issues you'll get an A in this class.

Professor Crystall is seeking something very specific in each of the papers and if you don't write what she wants, your grade suffers. Class consists of meaningless discussions with little input from her. Not a lot of work but hard to get an A.

On one of the last days of class we were put into groups and then asked to write what we liked about the class and what could be done better. When people offered constructive criticism they were shot down with excuses and disrespectful remarks. I have never been more afraid to offer my honest opinion in a class. Consider switching if you get her.

Dr. Crystall was a great professor, easy to talk to and made class interesting. The work assigned is not difficult at all and I always felt what she expected in an assignment was clear. The two textbooks required were not used except for one assignment at the beginning so find another way to get them besides buying.

She is no where near as bad as everyone on here says she is. Maybe it is just that I took her at 9:30am and everyone else had her in the afternoon? She is an easy grader and makes jokes time to time.

Prof Crystall single-handedly ruined my first semester at UNC. An extremely tough grader for a first-year level English class, and is not approachable at all. She is extremely condescending when you ask her for help and is so vague with her instructions. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

She isn't that bad!! (at least in engl155). Even though attendance is highly mandatory, she was a fair grader. Her class was boring sometimes and sometimes interesting, but it was very possible to receive a good grade!

Dr. Crystall is a very interesting and quirky woman that makes this class enjoyable. She isn't too clear on what/when things are due, but makes up for it by assigning easy work that rarely takes more than 1-2 hours to complete. She talks for most of class, which means you can just listen and laugh. She's lowkey hilarious and cares about students

I never felt unsafe in a learning environment ever in my life until I took a class with this woman. She thinks her opinion is the only one that matters. If you offer a differing point of view or even just ask for clarification about an assignment, she will yell at your in front of the entire class. I once had a panic attack on the way to her class.

Dr. Crystall is by far the worst English teacher I have had in my education experience so far. She is extremely vague, unhelpful, close minded, and disrespectful. I can't say I have ever enjoyed her class or her as a professor. Please avoid taking her class, no matter what it takes. The course work isn't hard but she is my least favorite professor

AVOID taking this class. She is very vague spacey, but manages to get snappy and angry when students make mistakes. I sat next to a slower boy in class, and she ripped into him often (cutting him off sharp tone eye rolling). SO RUDE!! If you take it, buckle down, do your very best work, and always cover your butt by taking the extra mile.

Very closed minded/arrogant. I have seen her attempt to make students look foolish for questioning the vagueness of an assignment. Avoid at all costs. I would bet good money that she wrote the 2 positive reviews about herself.

Her assignments were very confusing and she was unclear about her expectations. She could be rude sometimes. She found no issues with any of my papers and I made As on everything, but I would really have valued some instruction there, as I really didn't know how to write college papers as a first-semester freshman.
