Took it as my elective and I loved the class. His lectures are interesting and it's impossible not to enjoy the subject. Great music. If you are lucky enough to be able to take him, do it.

Duvall is AWESOME! As long as you study for the tests and take good notes you will get an A. I took his online class which was set up very well. I also had a friend in his in person class and he said he would tell the class "write this down this will be on the test". real homie 10/10 recommend.

He is the absolute worst at grading tests even though all he has to do is use a scantron. Ever test we had he either messed up the whole classes and had to regrade them or he forgot to grade half of the classes. Most unorganized teacher I have ever encountered. The class its self is not very difficult however the teacher is the problem with grading

Comment:

Good professor, class can be a bit boring at times as its lecture heavy. Tells you exactly what to write down for the tests although the tests contain a lot of information you won't know from anywhere else so you have to study and memorize everything. Study few days in advance and you'll be fine. He is interesting and a friendly person.

He is a wonderful teacher overall and is pretty laid back. You have to go to his class to get the notes from his lecture, but if you needed to miss you could ask a classmate. He allows up to three absences and after that he drops your letter grade. There is one extra credit opportunity where he raises your grade 2 points. Listenings are fairly easy

He is so funny & his class is really enjoyable, but it is not an easy A. You have to study for these tests & DO THE LISTENING. The final is 75% listening. The class is really fun & I never wanted to skip, but he penalizes you big time for more than 3 absences. He also gives an extra credit assignment & a final paper that he doesn't even read.

Very easy class if you study your notes. He tells you exactly what to write down in lectures so you have to attend class to know whats on the 4 tests. There's one final paper that's an easy 100 & multiple extra credit opportunities. Class is also cancelled a few times for his performances. Great class if you want to listen to music & like history

His class is lecture heavy but he tells you exactly what you need to write down to know for tests. He is very funny and sarcastic which makes class more enjoyable! Plus, he offers multiple extra credit opportunities. Attendance is mandatory and he will drop your grade significantly if you miss too many classes.

If you study your notes and know the music you'll do just fine. Tests are all 50 multiple choice questions. Super funny guy, lectures can get boring sometimes but he always lets you out early. Good GPA booster.

I went into this class thinking it'd be somewhat of a breeze---however it is actually pretty difficult.. The lectures are extremely tedious and boring. He's very strict about attendance and cell phones

Thought this class would be a throwaway, but ended up enjoying it immensely. He is so knowledgeable and makes the class very fun. Very strict on attendance and phones, so watch out! But listen to the music, learn the fact (which are very interesting) and you will do well. You might even find a new favorite type of music!

He does take attendance every day, and is very against cell phones. He tests you from exactly what is in the notes and listening parts are exactly what are on the website. He plays the first 45 seconds or so, so just need to know that much to identify it. He tells you exactly what you need to write down during class, and its interesting

He tests on esoteric parts of his lectures & derides his students if they ask him to repeat something. He's also fanatically against cell phones in class but doesn't really care if you're surfing on your computer instead. He also doesn't really care about your success in the class so be prepared to just memorize all material. Is not helpful at all.

Pretty easy class, can only miss 3 classes, offers one extra credit assignment. Just take his notes and memorize them and you will make an A, the listening is pretty easy for the most part except when there are no words.
