Took 2 phil courses with Pendelton 32 years ago (thats right, 32 years ago). He was an excellent teacher. I remember having discussions with him during office hours about morality /religion. He confessed he was an atheist. 32 years after kent state, Pendelton was the only professor whose name I remember. May be that says something about him.

Dr. Pendleton made me fall in love with Pholpsophy. He's funny and very interactive. I was not a pholpsophy major but he was my fave prof. I liked him so much I took another class with him even though I didn't have to. Soo funny The best. Don't miss out!

The only thing you need to do in this class is pay attention and take notes. Hes very straight forward and his tests are based on his lectures so take good notes. Don't need to textbook but sometimes he'll get mad if you don't have it so don't sit in front if you don't.

This guy made me fall in love with Philosophy. He is very interactive and always involves students, really humorous and theres nothing he wont talk about, and the most laid back professor i have had yet. He is old but keeps it interesting. Only few tests over all the notes. Thats it not one separate assignment he is very clear about the course.

One of the most difficult classes (Honors Philosophy). Lectures are very difficult because its hard to take all the notes. His grading is unclear, he doesn't really disclose how he grades the paper in general. He has 4 essay questions for the final and each are supposed to be a page long answers. My advice- Run away as far as you can from him!

I took this class for Into to Ethics and he is a good teacher and asks all the time if you understand what he is discussing. His note taking method is very unorthodox. He just writes key points on the board and if your not closely paying attention or go to class all the time you will have no idea what they mean. 3 exams only grades so don't mess up

Best professor I've ever had, hands down. He knows what he's teaching like the back of his hand. His classes fly by because he interacts with students and is hilarious. He actually cares about how his students do in the class. It's a tough subject but he does a fantastic job of teaching. Go to class & take notes.

I had him for Continental Rationalism. He is a clear, lucid professor. Bring the book to class, and do the readings before class and bring questions from the book or last lecture. He comes off as mad/pissed, but I think he really enjoys what he does. Gives the tests questions prior to the exam, but that doesn't mean they're easy.

He filled in for when my other professor took a leave of absence I was super worried but he ended up being the sweetest funniest guy. He was not super hard. He did not take attendance but he did do random quizzes that were easy if you attended class. I highly recommend him.

One of the Best around! He is an amazing prof and a very nice man. Ethics is sometimes a demanding class but he breaks it down nicely and lectures very well. Not necessary to read the books, as he goes over all the material in class. Definitely recommend pendelton, you'll enjoy his style, i guarantee it.

The way that professor treats a writing intensive course is relatively annoying. He gives essay question topics before each exam and holds an in-class micro/macro exam (1 of 2 topics for micro, 3 of 5 topics for macro). The topics aren't the problem: students must MEMORIZE the responses to each topic for the exams. Also hard to read the material.

Comment:
Professor Pendleton is very good lecturer. That being said, the material in Medieval Philosophy is difficult, monotonous and slightly incoherent. By the end of the semester you will be ripping your hair out trying to read. The essays get really hard at the end: study hard at the beginning. Augustine, Aquinas, Abelard, Scotus and Ockham. Decent.

This professor is definitely one of the best at Kent. Not only is he knowledgeable about philosophy, but he knows more than everyone in the class combined about the history of art and literature. He is able to synthesis the information he quickly gives you in a way that is memorable. His tests give a sense of achievement after finishing.

He is really clear. You need to attend class because he does a lot of teaching. This is why the book is so cheap: he uses it so minimally because he knows how to fill in the rest. Brilliant professor; I enjoy all of his classes. HIGHLY recommend.

Great Ethics teacher! I loved this class. Make sure you go to class and listen to his lectures- all exams are essay based on notes. He knows what he's talking about and is very helpful when answering questions. Dry sense of humor and quite intimidating at first but definitely worth taking his class
