Comment:
Dr. Bothun is a very intelligent man, the amount of knowledge he possesses and the way he applies it to his view of the world is incredibly inspiring, and it made every lecture incredibly captivating. That being said, if you are not interested in the subject matter it might be a difficult class for you; it requires a lot of out-of-the-box thinking.

Interesting character, if you have been interested in astronomy before or have taken solar or stellar you will love this class. any other type of student will have to work hard to wrap their heads around the concepts in the first half of class. Homeworks can get a bit confusing though.

Bothun is a fascinating guy. He's pure science. I took the Scientific Revolutions course he offers and it was one of the more valuable classes I have taken. He is brilliant and presents his material unlike any other professor I have had. Great perspective. Easy science credit.

Professor Bothun is extremely intelligent but one of the worst teachers I have had. His lecture slides are from years ago and left most unupdated. He ridicules students for asking clarifying questions and seems to have a massive chip on his shoulder towards this generation. Every student I spoke to left class feeling insecure and confused.

great at teaching, very engaging. he put together a roast slideshow of our group assignments that was both hilarious (in a painful way) and very helpful

Greg Bothun is a really interesting dude. Genius and extremely passionate about his work, he knows his stuff. He's not super clear on his expectations for student work which makes his class difficult and sometimes annoying. His assignments are quite tedious so if you don't take extra to do them your grade will suffer.

Professor Bothun is an interesting guy. He's obviously passionate about the environment but he 100% had no business teaching lower division. He's a genius, but he's not the best at passing that down to students. Even our GE's were confused and couldn't turn to him for clarification. The tests/homework are based on lecture. Go to class.

Professor Bothun is an interesting character. He seems to know a lot about physics and astronomy, but he lacks ability to communicate this information in a way that is easy to understand. The fact that a 45% is passing in this class shows how ridiculously hard it was, especially for an intro douse. The homework wasn't on class stuff and tests hard.

He won't give you any sort of guide for both (week 5 and week 9) midterms or the final (fnals week). Very confusing and hard to follow in class; homework assignments are all over the place. Some of the content was actually interesting, but I found it incredibly difficult to engage with since he is such a rude person and overall, a discouraging prof

Greg Bothun is a condescending professor who won't explain things in a simplified manner. He lacks the teaching capacity of patience and merely presumes that students know how to calculate galactic velocities etc. For such an entry level astronomy class, I wasn't expecting to have to self-learn cosmological physics. He doesn't have office hours.

Bothun is dismissive of students learning. I witnessed him respond to a student who said they were struggling to grasp some of the content by saying yeah, well everyone else is confused toooffering no further advice. When asked about office hours he said he doesnt have his hours sorted yet (nearing the fourth week of classes).

Bothun is not your typical professor. He'll make you intimidated, scared, intrigued, fascinated, appalled, and many other things, but you'll be glad you took his class. Some of his classes are harder, some are easier. If you pass on taking his classes, though, you're missing the opportunity at an extremely unique learning experience.

Discusting character when it comes to helping out students. He gets mad when you ask him questions and gives you condensing answers. I heard people asking him questions after class and he would be condesending. I noticed this and ran to the nearest computor to switch out. I belive to be successfull the student and professor have to be in sync.

For those considering his Comp Phys class: this course will prepare you for your future as a physicist. However, it's A TON of work, so don't take another difficult course during the same term. Start homework as soon as it's assigned, do your best, and don't freak out when you can't finish it. Bothun is all about students rebounding from failure.

He is extremely intelligent and actually very successful in the professional physics field. His teaching will challenge lots of the beliefs you have about the world but in a fascinating way. His tests are hard but there were only two in the 100 level class, and his essays aren't hard in terms of grading. One of my favorite non-major classes.

Professor Bothun is probably the most knowledgeable professor I have ever had. The class opened my eyes to current problems that are far more significant than I previously thought. You don't have to study much for the midterms and final exam. Just show up, pay attention, and you'll pass. He cursed a lot during lecture.

Bothun is the most controversial and informative professor that I have ever had. If you are sensitive about being called out on the things that you are personally doing that are in direct contrast to your proposed major, then this class is not for you. That being said, BRAVO! Bothun is intelligent, informative, and a little rough around the edges.

His lecture notes were filled with misspellings and poor grammar! When I asked for help, his email responses were frustratingly brief and unhelpful. I had to do additional research outside of class just to grasp the content he oversimplified in this course. Interesting material, but he could have been much more helpful and thorough.
