Howard gives 5 "quizzes" in this class however each are worth 12% . He gives you the questions a few days in advance however no matter how much you know the answers he marks hard. If the quiz has 8 questions on it and you get every answer correct he could still fail you cause its not EXACTLY whats he's looking for yet its exactly whats in the book.

I took his class in mid 80's. I didn't have much interest in the music he was teaching at first. But, once I entered his world of music I couldn't help but get caught up in his enthusiasm and love of music. I even learned to have an appreciation (or tolerance!) for country music! Seems like he is still a wonderful teacher. Thank you Mr. Spring

FANTASTIC! I had heard good things about Spring before, but I loved this class. I didn't know much about Jazz before, but he has such a passion for it that I learned a lot, and def listen to Jazz a lot more and find myself looking through the Jazz section all the time. Highly recommend this course with Spring!!

Spring was my all time favorite prof in all my four years at Guelph. He really cared about his students and how we were learning. I was inspired by his love for jazz and his lectures were so interesting. I have found a new love for jazz music because of this course.

I have talked everyone I have met out of taking History of Jazz DE, and into taking it in class with Spring. He's so into it and a pleasure to listen to. Great prof.
