Comment:
Fritzman definitely takes a while to get used to but try to be open minded because later on you will love him!! His sense of humor is great and always plays a video before each class. The only thing you're graded on is 4 or 5 essays and he drops your lowest grade. Do the readings and listen to what he has to say in class and you'll do just fine.

Took E&D. Fascinating readings, philosophical bent(duh). Class structured for max. engagement with material. Part of HW is to come with a question, does wonders for lectures. You will learn to write well. Great feedback. Entertaining, engaging lectures. Easy to do well once you figure out his style. A bit eccentric, often funny. Highly Recommended.

I didn't like Fritzman at first. I thought he was weird and I didn't understand him. I came to realize that in the beginning of the year, he makes sure you know he isn't a pushover, but by the end of the year, you'll be in love with him. He's funny, smart, thought provoking, knows his material, and can separate himself from his own opinions.

One of my favorite professors. He may be tough for non-majors but he is fairly easy in lower level classes. He is also absolutely hilarious. If you show that you care about his class, he will give you a tremendous amount of support and help. Lastly, he will be critical in assessing your papers but grades very kindly regardless.

Fritzman is frantic. He is entertaining and really smart but totally all over the place. He is very passionate about philosophy, and is interested in students opinions (to an extent), but is not afraid to tell you that you're wrong. Do not talk in his class. He is really good at noticing little things but has no ability to follow a train of thought

Comment:
Fritzman has a different approach to philosophy than everyone else in the department, in a bad way. He noticeably plays favorites, doesn't like philosophy majors, and is wildly inappropriate in class. If you are looking for a philosophy class with no basis in logic, productive argumentation, or principle of charity Fritzman is your guy.

Fantastic professor, hard to understand at first but if you approach him with questions and interest in the material, he's incredibly helpful. I've taken 2 classes and loved both. Reading and writing heavy and entirely discussion based. Surprisingly great, interesting classes.

Possibly the best prof I've had. Very knowledgeable on all subjects and provides excellent examples to illustrate any confusing points. If it is true that he is marginalized within the philosophy department like he claims, then that is a tragedy. He clearly has the department intellectually dwarfed.

very very eccentric. He's a good person but a rough grader, and he's not very clear when he's describing things in class. you have to ask questions and then you'll realize he really does know what he's talking about.

Fritzman is wonderful! He is sooo funny. His sense of humor is unique which puzzled me at first but his bollywood obsession made me laugh so hard! Plus he cancelled our final, just didn't make us do it... he is the best ever!

If you can get past the eccentric personality, Fritzman is a great philosophy prof. He is incredibly smart, and I learned more in this class than any others that semester. I wouldn't recommend him to everyone, but if you like philosophy, definitely take his class.

All we did for class was read a section from the book, then write a 1 page summary of what we read. In class we'd discuss the reading. He's a funny professor though, so it'd make class a little more interesting. He also showed a lot of Bollywood YouTube clips. Very eccentric.

Some of the material was tough to get through, but it made more sense after Fritzman went through it. He had us over for diner at his house, which was pretty akward, but very cool. The class can get boring on occassion, but Fritzman says some frickin' hilarious stuff.

I took this class both a) as a filler and b) because JMF was recommended. I can say I wasn't disappointed. Very relaxed class, very funny, and willing to make fun of you (and others and himself) at no cost. Highly recommend him.
