Comment:
Freeman's lectures were super entertaining and engaging. He tied all of the subjects together very well and used lots of real-world connections to paint a clear picture of every topic. He teaches material very clearly and tells students exactly what to look for on the exams, how to study for them, etc. Really enjoyed the class and the prof.

Comment:
Professor Freeman is really nice and seems to care about his job. I mainly just didn't like the structure of the course. The only things that count toward your grade are 3 tests and a final, so if you mess up on one, your grade tanks. There is a good amount of reading but not a lot of it is necessarily necessary if you listen in lecture.

Prof. Freeman is one of the best professors I've had. He is so passionate toward what he is teaching and loves student participation. The class prior to an exam is a review session and he tells you exactly what to study.

Comment:
Prof. Freeman's class was challenging for me due to the midterm exams (of which there are two) and the final. Though he doesn't take attendance, you'll want to get to as many lectures as you can, as he makes it a lot easier to understand the material than the textbook does. Though a little hard to follow, he is overall a good teacher.

John Freeman is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very caring and is willing to help if he sees you put in effort. He makes the lectures sound like you're having a conversation & shows actual statistics to prove what he is talking about. Review sessions are critical since he tells you EXACTLY what he is looking for in exams.

Freeman uses content that can only be found in his lectures so attending as many of those is integral to passing this class. But even more important are the review sessions that he always holds the lecture before any midterm or final. During those, he tells you exactly what you should study and what he'll be looking for on the upcoming exam.

Freeman is a total sweetheart. Not only does he make lectures interesting, but he tells students EXACTLY what will be on the test beforehand and what criteria he is looking for. He is also very kind and encourages participation and to meet outside of class. Great professor and person. If you get a chance to take one of his classes, do it!

lectures can sometimes be dry but are still informational. review sessions clearly lay out everything on exams, though sometimes his grading expectations are a little less clear. very available and willing to help! textbook was mostly used to define terms, so an older version would totally suffice.

Great Prof! Would take his class again 100%. Although our TAs did the grading he gave you insane feedback that helped during the tests. The midterms were specifically laid out. A must take class!!

Good class, good prof, and I would recommend taking it, but don't expect to be able to just breeze right through it. You need to work for your grade more so than you would have to in other classes. You're only graded on 3 midterms and the final so make sure you do well on each of them otherwise your grade may suffer. Review sessions are critical.

The class is almost entirely based on the lectures. The book is useful, but not necessary to read. His lectures were very unorganized and hard to follow, but will show up on the test. He has a review session before the test where he tells you everything that will be on the test, which is very helpful.

John was easily one of my favorite professors. He is a very likeable person and he has a sense of humor. He makes the class interesting and tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests. He really made me realize my interest in global politics. Definitely cannot miss any of his classes though if you want to pass.

Professor Freeman is a great teacher, he really knows what he is talking about. His tests are based almost completely on what was said in class, the book is not useful for anything but looking up terms. It can be a bit difficult to figure out exactly what he is looking for on tests, but they (2 midterms, 1 final) are all essays and defining terms.

Best professor I've had at the U so far. Lecture heavy, graded on just tests and one presentation/essay, but it's clear what he expects of you. Lectures are enjoyable and he tries to make them as interesting as possible. He has amazing review sessions before tests!

I absolutely loved this teacher and enjoyed his lectures. Very hard to earn points though- only source of points are three essay midterms. Know your stuff coming into tests. Very respected and reasonable.

Professor Freeman should be teaching at an Ivy League school, instead he's at Minnesota. There will be a lot of readings, but as long as you pay attention during lecture you'll be fine. The exams are incredibly straightforward and he tells you what concepts and articles to know for the test. Beyond all that, he's a great guy too!

Freeman is honestly a great person and makes class fun and comical. At times it can be hard to figure out what the main point is/what he wants you to get out of the lectures, but go to the review sessions and use your book before exams and ultimately, you will do fine! Also, don't hesitate to email him with questions, he is very helpful!
