He gives a lot of reading. Many articles are bad. Thats it. His discussions are bad. Hes elusive about grading. His quizzes seem to show he does not understand the material he assigned students to read. Hes subjective about grading. He will hide his grading. You need to push several times to get answers. Hes not accessible.

The instructor is not prepared to teach. He showed us only two PowerPoint presentations most likely created years back for other classes. He is not willing to tell you your participation grade & PowerPoint grade even if you ask several times. His grading is subjective. He does not agree with other views students present & believes hes always right

Very reading intensive class and all quizzes are based on them. There is a midterm exam and a final research paper with a presentation. Attendance is counted-its 20% of the grade. As long as you read you will do great. It is a very interesting topic. Hageman really knows his stuff, if you pay attention you will learn a lot.

ALOT of dense academic reading. Attendance is important if ANTH isn't your thing for a better understanding. 1 exam, 1 10pg research paper, 10min presentation on research paper and quizzes on readings. Teacher is open to helping/talking w/students and extremely knowledgeable. Great sense of humor too. Kind of hard class if your not into Anthro.

Highly intelligent, always leads class into interesting discussions. Not an easy teacher but he's worth it for sure. Easy to stay awake in his class even if its just to stare at him all dreamy eyed.

I did all the work, went to see him, etc. Still gave me a C! Unbelievable. His instructions on projects were never clear, and when you ask for clarification he gives you some vague answer. Totally arrogant and unhelpful. I think the only reason he gets good reviews is because he's attractive. Other students agreed he was an unfair grader.

You need to pay attention, participate, and take notes. You do have to study but if you manage your time wisely, you'll get an A. Projects were tedious but fun (if you're into archaeology). If you don't understand something, GO SEE HIM. It'll go a long way.

Comment:
The volumes of information expected took away from other classes. He places too much grading emphasis on the essay portion of his midterm exam and not enough on the other portions of the exam. It just seems like he grades female students more favorably. He seems to pay more attention to them especially when students do presentation for their grade.

Lectures interesting, sarcastic humor, but he is the worst teacher that I have ever and here is why. No feedback. Graded work way late in being given back. 3 weeks for 1 test.Grades too subjectively & doesn't return work. 3 assignments never returned to me. No feedback. Ruined my perfect 4.0. Serious students should avoid him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough and strict, but fair. His lectures are usually pretty hilarious, which helped to get through some very dry material. You will have to work, it is not a blow off class. I learned alot.
