Welcome to the neighborhood! This man looks and dresses just like Mr. Rogers. Guy likes to talk so, if you don't want to have to participate or pay attention in class this is the guy. I spent most of my time in class on my laptop doing homework for other classes. 3 papers, no tests, relatively easy grader.

Gets off topic faster than a speeding bullet even though he talks slower than molasses. I get more out of class from conversation between my classmates than the prof. Get to do a lot of cool stuff (field trips and such). I've found that I'm mainly self-guided in class because I can't follow him to save my life.

Easy personality. Likeable guy. Talks a lot but will gladly cede to others if you want to talk. Good class discussions. Easy grading on papers. No tests including final (was a paper). Minimal reading, but literature was full of material to talk about. Knowledgeable guy on Jewish-Christian relations.

If a good prof. is the one that will be easy on you...than sure, Merkle is the guy to take. Aside from that I did not learn much. You know how we pay almost 50$/per class at csb-sju (yeah tuition is that high!) ...I almost felt like going to Merkle after each class and saying sometihing like : "This sucked - I want my 50 bucks back".Nice guy though

Great guy! Cares about everyone in the class. Tends to talk a lot, but is usually very interesting. Not much work, but put 100% effort into what you do have to do. Go to class, pay attention, and participate in discussions= you are sure to get an A.

Passionate about his subject and one of the kindest people I've ever met. Once he starts talking, it's hard to get him to stop, but luckily I never really wanted him to because he made class interesting.
