I've never experienced a professor who cares so deeply about the well-being and success of her students. She's incredibly passionate about what she teaches and tries her best to make lectures engaging for her students. I've taken 3 classes with her and would have taken twice that many if I were able.

Prof. Racine definitely wants her students to succeed. I found HIST 1150 a very interesting course, and I learned a lot! It's important to attend lectures because much of what she says isn't found on the online lecture postings. The assignments were clearly outlined and very interesting.

I must agree more sensible minds would say Racine is no uberprof. Average to competent. Personality substitutes for intellectual gravity. Not a Karenolic. Sorry.

I've taken 2 classes w/ Dr. Racine both of them were incredible. She's the kindest prof I've encountered at Guelph & is truly passionate about the courses she teaches. Even if you're not completely interested in the topic she's lecturing on, she's still fully engaging. She also gives thorough comments on assignments & is always avail for meetings!

Comment:
Racine is no firecracker of a teacher as others suggest. She is competent and instructive; but biography as history her most "vaunted" course is not taught by her. She contracts it out to other profs. to instruct students and then takes the credit for the course. Bio as history is also an old fashioned course.

Comment:
Professor Racine's admirers are many, but her teaching abilities reflect less intelligence, knowledge and ability than personality that seems to substitute for good teaching. I'm sorry but a more objective and dispassionate student interested in learning over personality ranks Racine a somewhat mediocre teacher. Harangues and homilies.

Comment:
The previous review is completely false. I went to every class and did not witness any of the alleged favouritism or criticism for not doing readings. She actually acknowledged that we were busy and recognized that if some readings were not done it wasn't the end of the world. The previous review does prof Racine a total injustice.

The best part of Karen's classes is her lectures. She highlights the main points of the topic, plus adds interesting facts that add to your understanding of the topic. At the beginning of class she will quickly discuss the last lecture to refresh your memory. Highly suggest attending all classes; especially Fridays (she notices if you're there!)

Had an extreme bias in favoring students in the class whom she went on exchange to Poland with the previous semester, but I could live with that... I apporached her with a personal anxiety related health issue and recieved a lecture which resulted in me breaking down in an anxiety attack. Seems to have faith in students but marks roughly.

does not provide any rubrics, nor does she try to help out at all. I thought she'd be a good prof because of her ratings on this site. DO NOT BE FOOLED! I emailed her after getting a 35% on a 6page document analysis. Never got a reply
