Comment:

I had Poe in Fall 2017 and she's not for everyone but I loved her. Most of class consisted of writing about the music she liked or watching horrible movies (Vanilla Ice's "Cool as Ice", or anything from Elvis) and analyzing what made them so bad. Our final paper was to write about what streaming service she should get. It was amazing.

She usually talks about 60s-90s music, and tv shows from that era. Not much particulary compisition related. Our final, which she has apparently done multiple times before, is planning her vacation, giving her a playlist, and planning her route. Emailed me in late december about a paper I turned in in october telling me to redo it by early january.

Poe is a really easy grader but really cares about grammar usage, I took her class one of the first semesters in my college career. She jokes a lot, in class you just watch movies or shows and then write papers on them. So long as you try, turn in your papers and show up you'll do just fine. Asking questions is a good way to get on her good side!

Professor Poe should not have been an English teacher. If anything, she should have taught debate or something in that field. She is very unclear with assignments and expectations. She does not know what she's grading; english is clearly not her forte. I would stay away from her at all costs.

Crazy person, but class was easy enough. As long as you show up and write the papers, you'll pass. And I mean write papers. Almost every day in class you write something to turn into her.

Very nice teacher but the class is very paper heavy. She never used relevant examples and usually only uses examples from the 50's and 60's for music and movies which can be frustrating. Sometimes she can be vague on her instructions for papers as well.

Horrible teacher overall! It was a waste of time, she would rant about politics all the time. She was very picky with absolutely everything. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER !!!

She was a tough grader but all her topics for the papers were easy. If you are ready to learn how to defend your opinion and watch weird movies, then this class is for you. You either watch movies, TV episodes or listen to songs and then you write a paper on your opinion. If English isn't your strongest subject, I would not recommend her class.

I took Eng151 with her in an accelerated 8 week class, if you miss more than 2 classes you failed. She is super into politics, so if you are a republican or conservative I wouldn't announce it. Overall, I got an A in the class pretty easily. The only hard part was trying not to get into a political debate with her.

Terrible course don't take it. She is a tough grader and makes you write about stupid songs and watch movies then write papers about them. If you don't show up to class more than five times she automatically fails you also.

HORRIBLE TEACHER. I got an A in this class, but it was the biggest waste of time. I don't think she really knows how to write. She should have been politics teacher, she never stops talking about it. Worst class I've ever taken. It's easy, but not worth the time. Also, she lies about random politics facts that are not true. Worst class ever

Awful class, teacher rarely gives example, much less explains anything. Poe's grading scale changes daily. Syllabus.. What syllabus. All I learned in this class was where to cite her work in someone else's writing, & Poe's personal view on politics and feminism. Poe should be History/political teacher not English. Take a different instructors class

I thought she graded fairly. Those who think it is impossible to pass this class must expect to just walk through school not having to do anything. Class consists of discussions which are led both by her and the students. If students don't ever speak up in class then of course the teacher is going to keep talking.

She was a terrible teacher. Yes, she does have some humor, but honestly, it did nothing for me to pass the class. Her teaching techniques were horrible. I learned nothing and all we did was listen to songs and write a page on how we would "rate" them. Pointless.

Prof. Poe is awesome. She's an English teacher with some integrity. Thank God there are still a few left.
