Comment:
Sometimes I felt like Maria was just too smart to dumb things down to my level. That being said, I got a 54 on my first exam and she dropped it when she saw how hard I was working and that I did better on the following two exams. She's a gem for that.

Maria is annoying with her constant giggle and lack of any teaching and social skills. She can be nice if she wants to be, but can't teach at all. I don't think her knowledge of chemistry is too great either.

You need to go to the class, not because of the lecture but she will remember you if you don't attend class! But I love her anyway, she is so clever and easy to communicate.

Marias class is difficult to follow, with confusinf notes and too much work. The course is work heavy without any breaks. Asking for further clarification does not help and only provides more confusion. Shes a nice person but cant teach gen chem

Very clear about instructions for assignments and for general expectations. Presents the material in a slow and methodical way such that it would be difficult to misunderstand it unless you missed the class.

Professor Gomez is my favorite professor. She is incredibly smart and nice. I cannot believe she would hurt anyone in her life, ever. Her classes are definitely not easy, but it's with good space and I learned a lot from her. It's worthy to take classes with her. Outside of the class, she is very accessible and super helpful as well.

I am not a science major so the subject matter was of little interest to me. However, Maria is a good teacher. She is humble,EXTREMELY helpful, and has a nice sense of humor. She wants her student to succeed.

She doesn't thoroughly explain the course well. Instead, she laughs a lot, and she spends more time on things we know instead of things we don't know. She also shows last minute new lectures the day before the test. Not to mention she makes it difficult for students to learn. I suggest taking chem 101 outside of MHC... don't take the class w/ her.

Comment:
This is by far my worst experience with chemistry. I had a A in chemistry last year, but am hoping simply to pass this course (she is THAT bad). The lectures are boring, disorganized, and confusing - to say the least. I do not recommend this class or professor unless you've had extensive prior experience with chem and do not need actual teaching.

Her lectures drag on and she loves irrelevant twenty-minute tangents which only confuse the class. She is a ridiculously difficult grader, especially at the 100 level. She is clearly a brilliant lady but I'd hope MHC could find someone less qualified than a department chair to teach a 101 class. I'd probably like her in a 300-level seminar, though.

She seems like a genuinely nice person, but she does not really teach in class. Most of what you need to know you have to learn yourself from the book, which is quite frustrating when it comes to doing the homework. I heavily suggest attending the help sessions!

Took Gen Chem II, Thermo and Quantum and also one of her research student. She is the most brilliant, kind, and inspiring person I have known. I would not say she is easy but aren't challenges the best part of learning? She truly care about encouraging women to pursue careers in sciences. I encourage everyone to talk to her.
