Comment:
Mark Widmer is pretty new to teaching this course. Hes a fantastic guy and really nice, but the TAs are the ones who run much of the course. Theres a TON of homework/busywork, readings, and papers. Tests are long and ambiguous and sometimes have stuff not even taught in class. Great and interesting material, but way too much unnecessary work.

By far one of my favorite classes and Professor Widmer is great! He tells great stories and gives interesting lectures. There is a bit of reading, but it's manageable and not stressful. Just make sure you pay attention in class and do the readings and you'll be set!

Dr. Widmer is a great guy and has a lot of experience in the field of EXDM. However, he has little to no experience teaching EXDM300 and I would not recommend taking it from him. Also, don't take this if you're not planning on using it for the EXDM application. It's not a GE. Tests are ridiculous and the TAs weren't too helpful.

He literally has no idea what is going on. Even with simple questions like "is the final cumulative?" he would look to his TA. He talks about the same stuff every class (mostly about himself) and none of that info shows up on the exam. The other professors writes the tests so he doesn't even try to cover all that info. Very disappointe w this class

Don't take this class. This class is more work than all my 4 other 3 credit hour classes combined including Econ 110. You learn very little that you can't learn reading a book or watching a few TED Talks. I've honestly been depressed taking full days to do projects for this stupid class. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, you'll probably regret it.

This is absolutely the worst class I've taken at BYU. The professors are incentivized to keep the class GPA below a certain point, so many aspects of the class are harder than they should be; not because the content is hard, but because the tested material is intentionally vague/misleading or an irrelevant detail mentioned in class one time.

Comment:
This class is poorly organized. The professor is a good guy, but the TA's run the class and are terrible. Way more work than the class is worth. The papers are graded less on content and more on whether they are APA format. Fun lectures, however they do not prepare you for the tests at all. Frustrating experience. Be better EXDM department.

The material of this class was somewhat interesting but the assignments were just a bunch of busy work. Tests were hard, but doable.

Dr. Widmer is a great professor and all but I am serious when I say that this is the worst class that I have ever taken. I have nothing else to say about it.

The class started out kind of chaotic and was hard to follow, but Dr. Widmer had a way of bringing it all back together. His teaching style is the exact opposite of Dr. Z, but he has just as much experience and cares just as much about his students. Dr. Widmer has a sort of silent authority that let's you know he cares deeply about the field.

Absolutely hated this class. We spent an hour in the classroom, and had to actually mountain bike the rest of the semester. We went on a field trip to the best trail in the world, Terrible right? If you hate a great professor and an awesome class, don't take it.

While his expectations for assignments weren't always clear the class was easy and enjoyable. He uses his life experiences and research to make everything more applicable to real life. He is very approachable and cares for his students. If he goes again...join his study abroad! He's the best.

I took RMYL 301 (Family Recreation) from Mark. And it was a breeze. But I did more than take class from Mark. He was my study abroad supervisor in New Zealand. That is how rockin' this guy is. He took 34 screaming American kids to New Zealand and lived to tell the tale. He is awesome! You will love him!

I had Mark for Mountain Biking in the summer. I would recommend this class to anyone, biker or not. He is a great guy and really passionate about what he teaches. He truly tries to get to know each student on a very personal level and help them improve in ALL aspects of life. Just an all-around awesome guy.

Excellent class, a lot of fun. Mostly discussion with a lot of outside reading. Widmer has a lot of good insights, has done some real studies about family-related issues, cares about his students, is a great guy. Tests open note, not too bad. Easy essays.

Too much reading, about 2,000 pages of it. Don't take this with ANY other heavy class, or you will fail.
