I don't know what professor some of these other raters had, but Melinda's class is a pleasure, despite our contrasting political views. I would take her Feature Writing course again in a heartbeat. I learned about the subject matter and also about the industry. She is encouraging and caring. If you think she is mean you're probably just a crybaby.

An awful teacher. It's an easy class but you literally learn NOTHING. We just sit there and she talks to the class about either A) liberals superiority to conservatives, B) feminism, or C) Israel. I was really excited for the class but we literally learn NOTHING.

Worst teacher. I have nothing against liberals as I am an independent, but she is just ridiculous! She pushes her views on her students, all she ever talks about are women's rights (we get it, you're a feminist!) and I learned absolutely nothing in her class. Waist of money and time. Every class she let us out 30 minutes after class started...

Melinda is amazing! She is incredibly hard. She gets in your face and tells you like it is but honestly, it is SO helpful. I learned so much from her. My writing improved dramatically and so did my understanding of journalism. Melinda is by no means easy and there will be times where you will hate her. But take from her, you will NOT regret it!!!

My section was Third World Women, Globalization, and Media. I liked her use of interactive technology - a lot of online resources. She puts students in charge of discussion, which is nice. She's an open-minded lady with a journalistic, feminist, anti-colonialist background. The class was very easy, almost no homework.

Comment:
I found her to be rude and arrogant. If she doesn't like what you have to say, she literally won't allow the discussion to continue. Also, the reading requirements were unreasonably long, and no one ever did them because no one had time. She needs to lighten up and chill out. A lot.

Comment:
She is dismissive of others ideas, and spends more time discussing her trips to Uganda and bemoaning her age than critically engaging us in any of issues. It might help if she bothered trying to learn her students names. The class is mindnumbing and if you were interested at all in this topic beforehand, you'll find it very repetitive.Don't do it!

Comment:
The class is not what it was supposed to be about. It's essentially a way for her to express her opinions and ideas and good luck if you disagree with her. It has recently become an autobiographical class where we learn all about her experiences and her past. Not a helpful or exciting class.

A little intimidating at first, but that'll pass once the class gets going. She expects everyone to be professional about every assignment, but doesn't forget that we're still students. If you're struggling to keep up, just show her that you're trying and she'll be very understanding.

One of my favorites at Emerson. She's encouraging, helpful and wants her students to succeed. She doesn't play games in the classroom, treats the classroom like a newsroom, and knows her stuff!

I think she's fantastic. The kids in my class were morons...and she didn't put up with it. If you didn't like her class or her, it's probably your own fault.

Melinda gets a bad rap for this class as a cynic. The bottom line is that she speaks the truth. She does a good job of telling you what the media industry is actually like, rather than sugar coating it. She really knows her stuff. The course by nature is dry,and she didn't do much to change that. B+

I sat in the back and slept, thats all their is to do. It was so boring, and the firt couple weeks just talk about how horrible the journalism feild is. This is not a good class if you don't like the news. The news is all the JR major is about, so if you're like me you will switch majors.

I can't stand her. She's a really smart woman, I will admit that..but she shouldn't be teaching. She's hostile, mean, and condescending. I dread going to her class and have ZERO interest when she's speaking. She does weird things w/her eyes that are annoying. I leave every class annoyed.

This class was a waste of my life. I didn't learn anything that would contribute to making me a better journalist. It's pretty much the history of journalism and media congolomerates. I changed my major after taking this class. Boo.

I love Melinda. I learned a lot in Covering a days news with her. She's a pretty good editor. I also had her for Discovering Journalism, which is quite possibly the worst class ever...but she made it interesting.

Melinda is a cool peron but can't teach very well. Half the time she didn't want to be in class...neither did we. Watching her facial expressions with her eyebrows kept me awake.

Melinda Robins is possibly the worst educator I've ever come across. She is condescending, unhelpful, and unfriendly.
