Comment:

Dr. Mike inspires future teachers to be creative and gives them the tools to do so. His project assignments require a lot of work but if you seek guidance he will oblige. I think he does try to weed out students who are not totally committed to a career in education. Hence the bad reviews. I was a non traditional student and understood this.

Slavkin may have a bad rep, but I think he is an amazing teacher! He has great ideas to share, along with lots of resources for your future classroom. The work load is not that horrible...it's college, there is always going to be some work. Get over it, it will not kill you! Mike is fun to get along with and likes to help in anyway that he can.

He is my advisor and I am asking for a new one! He is toatlly unprepared for our meetings that he insists be scheduled in advance and is not helpful or encouraging. I am requesting a new advisor! Uninterested!!

Terrible teacher! Doesn't make any sense at all. Hasn't taught a thing this semester. Blames his students for his inability to communicate clearly. Doesn't model professionalism. He threw a tantrum in class when we misunderstood what he wanted. Will never take him again. Constantly tells students that they will not be good teachers.

Okay, this was the most difficult class I took at USI. Anyone says that they didn't learn or it is worthless is nuts. He is practical, challenging, and totally excited about what he teaches. He thinks highly of his students and pushes us to be our best. He doesn't accept excuses. If you are lazy, avoid him - he will make you work and make you think

Dr. Slavkin is a total liar! He told us that he doesn't have the authority to cancel class but yet he did just that at least once a week. His assignments are pointless and his class is really just a waste of time.

I read the comments on the site, and can't disagree more. I don't know about the cussing ... whatever. He truly cares about his students, and wants us to learn from his class. He shares information and skills that are relevant. He pushes us to do our best. I don't think you can diss him for being a good teacher or for pushing students to think!!

Can be the best of times and the worst of times. He expects a lot and sometimes doesn't give you all the tools you need to do the job. He knows his materials and has always been the first prof. to email me back. As for his profanity, grow up we are all in college, so handle it. His personality can be very abrasive if you are thin skinned.

This is the class that started me on my downward spiral toward a business major. The way he taught his class made me not want to teach anymore. Looking back it is a good thing, but I am very resentful. after 4 classes as a business major 1 of my profs came to me w/ a note saying , "jerry" did not do well in his educ 201 class." WHAT A BUNCH OF BS!!

THIS WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING BUT REWARDING CLASS I HAEV EVER TAKEN! He is seriosu abotu education..... his attitude is contagious! I enjoyed this class greatly! I learned more in this one class than I had all my other classes combined!

Had this class in the summer...it was a ton of work in a short amount of time. SO, take the class during the regular semester. Fun class assignments, knows what he is talking about. My one complaint: uses profanity like it's his second language. I just didn't think that was very professional.

Slavkin will make you work for the grade you want. He expects you to work like adults, but at the same time, he is a blast to work with. His sense of humor is great, but if you're offended by profanity, expect to be offended.

I think Dr. Slavkin is probably one of the best professors I have had at U.S.I. He makes you WORK for your grade by setting high standards. Howver, he is willing to work with you to ensure you suceed, unlike many professors I have had in the past.
