Very confusing teaching method. Never really knew what is going on. Skips around a lot, from one group to another, one country to another, one time period to another. Would recommend taking the 100 level Africa class first. Other wise very nice personable guy. Tries to make class enjoyable. VERY hard grader. Attending and participating helps grade.

This is the worse professor that I have ever had throughout my academic career. I cannot believe that any University lets him reside.

His classes are hard, but he is a great professor. He really knows his stuff and does not make you feel dumb if you don't. My one critique would be he assigns an insane amount of reading. Almost to the point that his class has to be your only class in order to actually keep up.

Dr.Tuck, hmmm. His requirements are either extreme or part of the develpmenta process; depending on your intentions. I took a 100 level class with him that seemed like a 300 level class. If you wish to develop and prepare he is excellent. As a requirement only, DO NOT TAKE HIM. It is absolutely necessary to grasp his principle, not his personality.

He talks like Mr. Macky from South Park I swear he does. I got by with a C without reading and paying attention in class, which is honestly the hardest thing in the world for this guy. He teaches fine but he thinks this class is for history majors, I dont think he see's the "section 111" part. Tough, take it your a good b.s.err

Tuck is great! I really enjoyed his class. He expects his students to come to class every meeting and do all the reading. I was grateful for a teacher who actually held students accountable and I really learned alot from the way he tests. His tests are more about understanding the history then memorizing it. Great teacher, but NOT an easy A.

Prof Tuck is an extremely knowledgable and helpful instructor. Most people in my class that didnt like him 1) Never read anything assigned or 2) Never came to class and then were shocked they werent getting an A. "This is Northeastern not Northwestern" was a complaint, personally I like a great education/educator for a lower price.

He definitely knows his stuff. Yes it's a lot of reading and note taking, but your are learning about 54, with over 4,000 years of history in one semester. Do the reading, take notes, go to class, and you'll do fine. I received an "A" in this class, so it's definitely possible. He removes a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about Africa.

Prof. Tuck is a terrific lecturer and a nice guy. As others have said on this site, he simply doesn't suffer fools easily. If you do all the reading you should do well in the class.

Really most reviews are pretty accurate! This guy really knows his stuff. But this is what makes it a difficult course! I am not very interested in African history! (Not even a bit) But he will call you on any type of stupid questions? Overall, GREAT teacher if you have an interest in this subject. He knows his stuff!Just not for me!

Listen, this guy is a great teacher who knows his material. He will respect good work, but be careful, he will let you know if you are asking stupid questions. Some people dont like him because he will call you out if you arent doing the work. If you want a great instructor and are willing to work, take this class. And if you didnt like it U R LAZY

I think Tuck is a great teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable in the area he teaches and is therefore very helpful and informative. His class is challenging and very book intensive. You will learn. I wouldn't recommend taking classes from him if your only interested in meeting requirements.

Ok.. seriously, He is passsionate about what he teaches and i dont get why people think he's arrogant... If you don't ask stupid questions then you won't get stupid answers.. it's that simple, asking the same question 18 times would get anyone frustrated and make anyone seem arrogant... I actually enjoy the class and think that he's great

He is a hard teacher, but you are in college people what do you expect. He is not arrogant, he loves his subject and is very smart.I agree with another rater that guarantees that the bad reviews are from disgruntaled students. If you read and go to class you will do well. If you ask for help he will help you. An overall good experience.

He needs to get in tune with reality and not teach based on personal opinions but on hard FACTS.If one is to teach on African History he first needs to know what makes an African an African and not just a specimen study.

as it has been said prior, people confuse his deep knowlege of the subject and his moderately high expectations for arrogence. although i admit he plays the hard-ass the first couple weeks, its soon evident the guy is as attentive and liberal as it comes. i GAURENTEE everyone that has rendered a bad raiting here are simply disgruntled studen

Dr.Tuck covers a lot of important material in a short amount of time and does it thoroughly. He lets you know exactly what he expects and it you attend class and do the readings it is no problem. He is not arrogant he is smart and has limited tolerance for college students who ask questions that should have been answered in grammar school.
