Although Dr. Sil has already retired, some of his former students who have had the pleasure of taking his courses believe Dr. Sil requires a chili pepper because he is one amazing professor.

He is a very smart man. He demands excelence from his students, so if your looking to just show up and skid by, don't bother because he will fail you. I learned a ton from him, just be ready to read a lot and work. If you can do that, he is probably the best professor at WOU.

He is very passionate about his subject matter. I had a hard time paying attention because of the minimal visual aids. However, he is very intelligent. It's interesting that many people have said he throws tantrums. He and I joked around a number of times. I never saw him heated. For class work, pay attention and work. He doesn't tolerate slacking.

If you're into history, he's the best professor to have. If you're looking for a slacker class, don't bother. He doesn't enjoy teaching 100 level classes and doesn't put up with freshmen BS. If you're willing to commit time to the reading/writing you'll learn more from him than any other professor in the department.

He's tough, but I like him. He expects students to do the reading and pay attention. The trick with his assignments is to repeat exactly what the book says about the question, and write well.

He's pretty tough, but hey, we're in college. He tends to get mad at the class, and his lectures are all over the place. He talks alot about latin origins of words. He's a hard grader. He messed up my final grade, however I gained some respect for him because he was very willing to fix it.

People describe him as "hard", but a more accurate word would be "intense". If you try to BS your way through his class he WILL call you out on it. You will learn a lot from him, as long as you're willing to listen. Due to the way he makes eye contact with his students, there will be times when you feel like he is lecturing to you personally.

Dr. Sil is an excellent professor. He expects us to perform at college level, which is what we are here for. If you're here for "easy" you're in the wrong place. He knows his material, especially in the UD classes. I totally respect and admire this prof!

Sil is a tough grader, he plays favorites, he'll explode every few classes and throw someone out of class. But, he's awesome once you get to know him. Don't test him on the syllabus, show up to get/turn in your take home tests; for example. Learn his style and you'll eventually get the hang of Sil and write his essays in very little time to get an A. I've taken around 20 credits of Sil and I can consistently get an A with a few hours of work on the essays. His term papers are rough, though. Time consuming.

People tend to not get Sil. Don;t take him for 100 level classes, he hates teaching them. But in uppper level courses, you will not find a more knowledgable prof. Do your readings. HE gets angry when the class hasn't read. The nicer and more attentive the
