Comment:
Livant really was an OK teacher. He gave decent lectures and would answer any questions students had. Also held a study session before tests to help students study. His tests were a little challenging, so you need to study thoroughly. However, he has a great grading policy to help students with their grades. An A is definitely possible if you study

Dr. Livant is the best prof. you can get for OChem 1. He enjoys teaching the class which makes lectures entertaining as well as informative. That being said his exams are hard so keep up with reading, go to SI, and be well prepared for all exams. Turn them all in if you can because at minimum the final is 50% of your grade! An A is possible though!

At first I was scared (because I failed ochem previously). But Livant was not like my other ochem teacher. He gives 'skeleton' notes that help you to see what to focus on. His quizzes help you gauge where you stand. The homework is way more difficult than the material on the tests. Get his old tests and learn to solve similar problems. Go to SI!

you most likely will have his old tests which will help some but you still won't really know how to do it. SI sucks (well the person I had) and u struggle through the whole class. You don't have to take every test, so do well on Test 1 & 2 and DO NOT take Test 3. What you make on the final is your grade in the class anyway so get it together bythen

Tests aren't hard, but you'll definitely be pressed for time. OChem is a class that you need to practice all the time. Very hard to cram for a test.

I had Livant for OChem 1, and the best advice I can give is DO NOT get behind on your reading. I would advise reading ahead and paying attention in lectures. Old tests will help you immensely, I probably did 10+ for the last test and final. When you get to reactions, back of the chapter questions will help. Your final grade is your letter grade!

Dr. Livant is a very friendly, entertaining and helpful professor. It is a hard class. He is a little difficult to follow and ALEKS will make you rip your hair out. However, he is one of the few professors I've had that volunteered to come in on a Sunday to go over material before a test. It's chem. You've gotta do the work.

Didn't care for Livant. Lectures didn't relate to each other and teaches you as if you already know OChem. You don't finish RXNs until the week before finals but have to know them all for the final. Tests were always graded poorly (off by 5+ points) and needed a regrade every time. Can be a little condescending in office hours and final is 12+ pgs.

Be sure to work the problems at the end of the chapters. Reading the book was the most helpful to me since he really only provides a skeleton of the material. After every test be sure to check your answers and add up your points. Get old tests from previous students and form the Chem Lab (2nd floor). The final can only redeem you, not hurt you.

Livant is funny and tries to keep the class interesting. The class is really hard and because of it I'm changing my major. I think it is more the class than the teacher.

Be prepared for the tests. They are extremely long, but if you really know the material, you are able to answer every question, there are just so many. Gauge your time wisely while taking his tests. Also, go to class every lecture. The notes are put online, but to me they don't make sense unless you hear him explain them.

Dr. Livant is by far the bet organic 1 teacher at Auburn. You truly have to learn the material to do well which is great if you will actually use the material after the class. He really gets you ready for organic 2 which is insanely harder. He is a very hard teacher and I recommend for organic 1. DO NOT take for 2 though unless you already know it.

Dr. Livant is a great OChem professor who really knows the material! Sometimes the detail he gives doesn't matter. I read the book, studied notes, and old tests (which help the most). All notes are posted online, but you won't understand them unless you go. Make sure to check your tests because there are almost ALWAYS grading errors!

Livant is one of my favorite professors. His lectures are posted online and contain a lot of information. He's funny and fair. What you get on the final will be your grade in the class, unless you did worse on the final. Not an easy class, you have to work for it but I enjoyed Livant's teaching very much.

Very detailed lecturer, goes way too far into material. He will give you a final grade based on the final if you do better that way. Read the textbook to learn.

Very difficult professor. At first it seemed like the class was going to be challenging, but attainable. I was wrong. I studied and studied and studied and came out with a C in the class. The tests were ridiculous and the notes could be pretty difficult to understand.

Livant is by far one of the hardest teachers, but you really learn it despite the test scores. Definitely a hard class, but not impossible. Gives you enough help in office hours if you come prepared.

Livant's teaching style is something that I feel you either love or hate. For me, it's great. The way he explains things is clear and he really loves what he's talking about. His quizzes can be tough but helps you establish what you don't understand before the test (which is ideal). He definitely makes you work for it but an A is not impossible.

The text book will be your best friend in this course. Dr. Livant is very respectable and he is willing to help if you reach out for it. His lectures are extremely bare, so you must go home and do your Sapling problems and read the book and do practice problems. Chemistry is my MAJOR and I really struggled with this class. He means well.

One of the best teachers! Had lots of tedious online homework, but all chem classes do. Was very confusing in class, but once you got to used to his notes it's not bad. He tries to make class interesting and gets irritated when you don't show up. Offers tons of extra credit on the final exam. Go to his office hours and you'll pass.
