His class is lecture heavy, but he does often show videos that relate to the topic and he makes the lessons interesting. Hes very clear with directions and for what he expects. Has a good sense of humor.

Dr. Kane was by far my favorite of the semester. He made the material interesting and related it to modern times. He assigns a lot of reading but it helps understand the material and helps write the 2 essays assigned. Many quizzes (he gives questions in advance) with extra credit, midterm and final. 10/10 recommend

Comment:

Dr. Kane makes a subject that one might not be interested in (like the history of Japan) interesting. He is very fair and gives clear expectations for tests and papers and keeps the class interesting. Definitely recommend!!

Fair grader, pretty dense course material, but he does the most to make it clear and understandable. Funny dude, often adds little clever comments to make class entertaining and make sure everyone's still awake. One of the best profs at NU.

Kane makes a subject that can be occasionally dry super interesting with his wit and humor. Definitely my favorite professor at NU; he may be a tough grader, but he's very fair in his criteria and is always available if you need help. Incredibly smart guy with a good sense of humor.

Dr. Kane is extremely intelligent, and is literally the smartest most qualified History professor on campus. He has the ability to explain complex ideas. His classes require a lot of reading and studying. However he has a great sense of humor, and likes people who talk, and even those who don't or the "strong silent type" like me.

If you have any ounce of patriotism for America, you will find this class hard to sit through once you reach WWII. He seems to have a very negative attitude about the US. This class has excessive amounts of reading and the paper requirements were not made clear and things that would have assisted in writing it were mentioned after the due date.

Are you a history major? If you are you would be stupid not to take Dr. Kane. Some effort is required, but taking notes in class and a bit of studying will get you an A. Whatever class you take, you will become somewhat of an expert in! He is a genius, period. Great to just chat with too. Will always help if you need it. Learn a ton!

This is a really tough class for someone who doesn't like history. Anyone interested in history will love him. He's a great guy and teacher but a tough grader. Lectures are interesting. A lot of work to do for a gen. ed. class

Prof. Kane is a great guy and a good teacher, if u like the Red Sox then take his class, notice his Boston accent that he inadvertantely lets slip once in a while! Tests were kinda hard, but he gave options for re-writing essays, and he isn't too bad on missing classes, in summary, wear a Red Sox hat to class and he'll love you.

best professor ever. work hard you will do fine in his class. not easy, but do your best and meet with him in office hours helps. the first class i took with him i barely talked in class, but i went to after hours and got to know him and did fine. the second class i took i spoke up and did better! MUST do the readings and edit papers ahead of time!
