Robin McKinney is by far the worst Social Work professor. He is extremely disrespectful and rude to students and seems to enjoy doing this in front of the whole class. Has not posted one grade all semester. Is NOT approachable whatsoever. Don't ask a question or even think about emaili him unless you are prepared to get yelled at and degraded.

He is fail and if you fail it was because you did do any of the work. I had a family crisis and he was supportive. My friend lost her husband and came to class. He immediately sent her home to be with her family and worked with her to complete the class. If you are honest he will work with you.

My least favorite teacher! I did all the work and am getting 100% in the course and I still hated the course. He makes you feel dumb and is super unapproachable. He doesn't use eLearning very well so don't expect to know your grade at all. He doesn't seem to care about his students and I would graduate a semester late just to avoid his class.

Makes you feel stupid for asking questions about the material. Sends emails to the class that are standoffish and rude. Our midterm was a time-limited APA format paper with references that was insanely difficult to do in the amount of time given. He tries to be funny, but is very, very rude and insults people openly through email and in class.

Robin is a great professor. He's smart, funny, and caring. "Easy" Grader (generous/not punitive) but you will definitely learn the material. I'd be suspicious of anyone that doesn't like him, he's so reasonable! If you don't "get" his humor, maybe reconsider higher education. If you don't like it, you might be too uptight for social work.

I love Robin! He has a different sense of humor, but he has a good heart. You will learn a lot from him. If you are very structured, you will get frustrated, but if you can learn to go with the flow, you will be just fine.

I heard all bad things about Robin, then got to class and determined that I really like him. I think that people are not used to his sense of humor, but he is very smart. In terms of assignments he is all over the place with instructions but the work is not hard. I think he is disliked for his personality, but I think he is hilarious!

Comment:

"I'm stuck on stupid" is a quote he will use all the time. He forgets a lot of things like handing back papers. He is rude to some people in the class, so it will make you uncomfortable to ask any questions. He says we went over that, but you never did. You have to keep reminding him of things that he said we were supposed to do.

His sense of humor is extremely odd.He often rants and raves about random things which is okay b/c it kills time. He has alot of experience in the swrk field and mainly talks about old experiences verses actually teaching the course outline. Overall if you want to learn dont take him, but if you enjoy listening to random stories, he's your man!

His use of 4-letter words over and over and over is very offensive. He is very rude to SOME people who ask questions in class ("That's what I JUST said!"). His instructions for papers & case studies change every times he gives them. He jokes a lot, and it's tough to know when he's kidding and when he's serious.

Read all the assigned texts and be prepared. Know how to write in APA style. Network with others in your class to really assimilate the materials. Dr. McKinney is there to provide the information-it is your responsibility to learn the materials. As in real life, he expects you to adhere to deadlines. I worked hare to earn my A.

Robin is a good guy. The thing about Robin is that he's a social worker, and that he's real life: so in the fall he lost his dad, ya he was out of it. But I had a mental health issue and he was extremely supportative and understanding of my absences. If you want to learn though, read the book, its called grad school for a reason.

I really loved social work but after having his class i absolutely hate it. He is so unprofessional and is all over the place with his lectures. They have nothing to do with the quizzes and doesn't explain the paper well at all! He's a nice guy but needs to be a little more professional.

I never knew how I was doing in the class. He would return my assignments with just a grade and no comments. He was approachable enough, but didn't respond to my e-mails. All in all a nice guy, but a bit scatter brained.

I have to agree that he was pretty unprofessional. He would just show up late or would have signs posted outside the door saying to wait for his arrival. Not clear about what he wants in his papers and doesn't go over it because it is in the syllabus. I emailed him and he never responded. He showed the movie Fatal Attraction instead of teaching.

One of the greatest professors I've ever encountered! Had very relevant things to say, and had a great sense of humor. He can be a little intense, but he also is very approachable and willing to help students. He also offers do-overs on any assignment, which can really help you out. A great instructor.

I love the fact that he is open minded and his philosphy is "You have to work at failing." "The worse you can get is a do over." I don't worry about failing. I know that if I do something wrong b/c I don't understand then I will do it again ensuring my understanding.
