Hoeksbergen is the best, he is kind of a tough grader on the Mid-term but he will do literally anything to help you get a good grade as long as you are interested and engaged

There was a lot of difficulty because he would give assignments without teaching enough of the information; there was a lot of extra learning you had to do that he wouldn't mention in class. There is a lot of weekly homework which can be difficult if you're not understanding the material well. He does have good ideas though.

He's very willing to meet before a test and help you understand things. He also offers good feedback on reflections even if you disagree with the topic though I've heard he gave people a bad grade on their final group presentation since they didn't agree with him. Interesting class that tackles not only the tech side of econ but the moral issues.

He is a very understanding person in terms of seeking for advice in the field of IDS. ECON 221 was a class you should study for, but once you get it and you show you worked hard, the grade naturally goes up. Talking to him is always a pleasant time.

Took this professor for an IDS class hoping for some good discussions but they turned out to be only one sided ones. He shoves his opinions down our throats and if you try to differ, even with educated literature, he will try to make you look stupid.

In my opinion this is one of the coolest profs you'll get to have at Calvin. He's always more than willing to talk with you about anything that you'd like more guidance on. He's excellent with Economics, but for Development guidance, he's the best Professor you could ever hope to learn from. He cares immensely about issues and students alike. :-)

Helpful professor who wants students to learn. He's willing to take lots of time to help you if you are really interested in the subject. I learned a lot. Group presentations can be a hassle though, and their grading can seem inconsistent.

I love him so much. He is so interested in his students. Yeah he is tough, and he challenges you to think differently, but he is always there to help his students as well. I think he is probably better at international development classes than purely economic classes, especially because his passion lies in development, and it shows! My fav Prof

I found him to be an inspired and inspiring teacher. Essays are graded like this: if you seem like you're really questing for the answer and thinking it over, you get a good score even if you don't actually reach the answer.

Very poor teacher for this class. He lectures on the philosophy of economics, but not on the material in the book. Doesn't explain his grading AT ALL. I think he spent to much time fishing in the sun...
