She gives extra credit assignments in class everyday which is the only reason I come to class. Exams are difficult.. you will have to put in the time to really do well on exams. She doesn't seem to be very helpful outside of class or wants to answer any questions about additional help, in other words she just kind of expects you to get it.

Took her class a semester a year ago and I can say shes the toughest professor at NIU. Doesn't really care if you're struggling. Would have had a perfect 4.0 GPA if it wasn't for her. Every student that I have talked to and that have taken one of her classes, express the same way about her. Shouldn't be a teacher.

Run while you still can... Im telling you!! If you ever need help in her class, shes not the go-to person.. shell be mad at you for not understanding her lectures.. so sad.. I was able to get a B but will never ever take her again.. EVER!!!!

Took the online version. Very clear on what is required and sticks to the syllabus. Exams are hard, but I've seen worse. She posts videos of herself explaining some of the exercises. She posts study guides for the 4 exams, and there are no surprises on the exams. Just study what's on the study guides and you should do fine.

Comment:

I toke the online version of this class and enjoyed it. She provides clear expectations, materials to study for test, and youtube videos of herself explaining end of chapter problems. You will need to know the material well to pass exams but the exams cover the material on her study guides; no surprises. Weekly quizzes and homework assignments.

You can be the smartest student and still get a D in the class. Did all of the hws and studied hard for the tests. Made you buy a software that tracks you while taking the exam which was stupid. Was unclear and sometimes won't even respond to emails. Good luck to study hard especially if you want to take this class online. Won't take her again.

I think she is such a great teacher. She understands how to teach to students that have never been exposed to this topic before. She has very good examples and is very thorough. She goes through end of problem questions step by step. I HIGHLY recommend doing the SUA with a friend or two. The class isn't easy, but definitely doable.

Very unorganized and does a poor job of explaining concepts. Likely a great auditor, but in spring her accounting job seems to distract her from delivering a quality class and prompt grades. Tests are difficult. Not helpful during office hours, keeps typing w/ back to you to let you know you're unwelcome. Very condescending toward students.

You don't really need to go to class except for the dates required on the syllabus. Devona just reads off the PowerPoints. Definitely not a good teacher. Read the book and do the SUAs. She won't be much help if you go into her office hours. Key to success is to do the end of chapter problems in homework.

I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Devona's class. Her lecture was not lengthy but concise and helpful. Textbook problems were assigned but not collected. The attendance was not mandatory, but there were always short in-class exercises that were graded. Her exams were not too difficult but challenging. She tested to make sure that you understood.

She's an awesome professor. She's very knowledgeable about fraud and internal controls, and her examples from her work experience in auditing were interesting during lectures. I'd recommend reading the book and taking notes from it, as well as paying attention in class. Definitely take advantage of the extra-credit.

This class was awful! Do not expect her to cover what you need to know for exams in class. You must read and study the text. There is a class and lab for this class and boy was it a lot of work and studying. She is only in the lab class for a little bit and then the ta's try to answer questions.

The group project sucks!! Don't blow it off because it is fairly difficult and takes forever. Her exams are fair but you have to read the chapters and know everything from top to bottom. She can be snarky and she makes you work for an A!
