Class lectures are based on student questions from the reading homework the week prior. Participation is a quarter of your grade so attend class and be prepared with some questions from your reading. Test questions at times weren't covered in reading or lectures. Purchase the study guide, no need for text book that is recommended.

This man is Funny, a Marine, and Smart to boot a dangerous combination. He uses the Socratic method of teaching, and expects you to read before class. He doesn't believe that wasting time talking about George Washington for an hour will help anyone, he wants to fill the gaps in the info that we understand the least. Best proffessor I've had so far.

Our first class begin with him saying that we had to "read and ask but do not ask him stupid questions." He is a worse teacher and seems to enjoy the position of authority a bit too much. I found myself asking how Fullerton could have such a teacher like this? Does anyone there even pay attention to the quality of instruction? Definitely skip him!

LOL i really don't know where to start, but i seriously wouldn't call him a professor, he has no experience in tutoring, he only answers your questions, your participation is mandatory it's 25% of your grade, what to expect? 1)read everything alone 2)ask the questions 3)don't expect to be tutored DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE YOU ARE BETTER OF ALONE

Professor Bailey expects everyone to be prepared with questions you have from the textbook reading he has assigned on the syllabus. Nothing crazy, but some readings are over 100 pages. The more questions people have the more he lectures and expands on topics. 4 exams and an essay final on 1 out of 5 topics he gives you. Tough class, but it was fun

Yes, you need to ask questions in class, but it isn't that hard to do. That's how you truly learn lessons from history, and his method is unappreciated in an age where some are focused on tests rather than education. Tests are hard, but gives everyone 10 extra points on each. He's extremely knowledgeable and has a very sarcastic sense of humor.

Bailey is a genius of history. You ask him a question about anything and he will give you a ten minute overview of that topic. You have to seriously participate to pass. His lectures are entirely based on the questions of students. Tests are difficult but he offers great study guides. Gotta work for your grade but its worth it. favorite teacher

As far as the class goes I really enjoyed his lectures. It's true he does not give specific lectures but prefers to go over whatever students ask him about the homework readings so participation is really important. Wouldn't recommend for anyone who likes to sit back and not participate or like me has really bad memory because the final is HARD.

He doesn't lecture; he makes you come to class with question that you have to ask for participation points and his answers and hardly ever easy to understand. His exams are very hard. A lot what's being asked in questions isn't covered in the book so you have to end up guessing. Also, the answers to a lot of the questions are subjective.

First of all I don't recommend taking him. His way of teaching is by having students ask questions. There are no powerpoints or visual aids. Everything you need to know is from the book and class time is strictly for asking questions. A huge amount of your grade is participation so he expects you to come to class ready to ask questions.

I took professor Bailey last semester and i can tell you he is NOT a good teacher. His whole class consists of lectures and you have to read the book to understand and is required for students to ask him questions and it's quite boring. He shows no power points or any type of visual help so for students who are visual learners; avoid him.

Comment:
I took Professor Bailey two years ago, but I do remember his class. The class is just students asking him questions about the assigned readings. Tests come from there. I might be bias as a History major, but I personally enjoyed the way class was set up like a seminar. However, he is tough as hell, his tests, and won't take bs from anyone.

He doesn't lecture, and expects students to ask questions the whole time. The participation points for the class are worth the same as the final exam (25%). He treats us like middle schoolers with his required attendance and seating chart. Read the whole book, and you'll pass the exams. Avoid him.

There's one thing that all aforementioned get right: this class will be hard. How hard will be entirely up to you. A few key points about the class. Yes, lecture is entirely dictated by the questions students ask. You need to ask question to earn participation point. You miss class, you miss points. The test are really straight-forward.
