Dr. Austin was one of my favorite professors at IUP. I see some people saying he rambles, but he's actually brilliant, well-traveled & well-researched, so if you are remotely interested in other countries or public policy, you'll find a ton of value in what he has to say. Easy A in a fascinating subject. I wish I could take more classes with him.

Dr. Austin wasn't a bad professor, but he's about as old as the campus itself and rambles a lot. You don't really have to pay attention in class, but go, get the homework, do the readings, and you will be absolutely fine.

Worksheets everyday, and readings everyday. Very unclear grading requirements. Claims to grade by "gut reaction" which is frustrating. There was a lot of busy work and retyping his worksheets for little to no reason. Not my favorite, but really not difficult.

Dr. Austin is wonderful. After having two classes with him, I would rate him as one of the best Crim profs at IUP. Yah he makes you read a lot, and do a lot of in class work, but if you show up to class everyday and read what was assigned, the tests should be no problem. He may be old, but don't let that fool you; his wealth of knowledge is vast!

SUCH a nice man. He's been all over the world and a lot of the articles he assigns are his own research. Tests are relatively easy, so long as you come to class and skim/read the articles. My only complaint is that every day in the class is the same: micro essays, worksheets filled out in groups, and a brief discussion. Recommended nonetheless!

Hands down the best professor I've had while attending IUP. Test are a little difficult and there's a lot of reading but it is writing intensive. Would recommend him to anyone and would most definitely take again. Truly cares about his students and makes it apparent.

I didn't need another WI class but I took this for the major. The class is interesting and uses a lot of varied readings. You don't have a textbook, just a packet. The tests were tricky but not impossible. No final exam and no final paper. There is a lot of reading and a significant amount of writing but it's not bad at all.

I had him a few years ago and this rating system was not available. He was, at that time, one of the best CJ professors on campus. In addition, he was personable and respectful. I would highly recommend his class.

Dr. Austin is a very nice old man. If you pay attention and write down everything he does you will do well. He let us use an index card for exams. It is writing intensive, we did micro-essays not super long essays which was nice. I would recommend Austin.

Honestly, I don't like his class or teaching style in the least. He doesn't lecture, just makes us read articles and do worksheets, and all assignments are graded by grad students. The class is more focused on Anthropology, NOT Criminology. Nothing is relevant. He loves making you read all his research. Nice guy, but I don't think I'd recommend him.
