Comment:
Prof. Leibel is a great teacher if you open yourself up to the idea of a different form of lecture. He has reading packets that he goes through every class and going to class is important because he emphasizes certain concepts and goes into more detail about topics. He is really understanding and a nice guy when you get to know him and his style.

You can skip class and just read from the packets he hands out. Needed a lot of internet help to better learn the tough concepts in his packets. Only three exams and a final. Make a quizlet and memorize word for word, or you'll lose points on the exam. Rarely has office hours, and never really answers your questions. In lab, you only watch videos.

Most boring professor ever. He just seems to not really care and not want to be there. He prints out note packets and just reads stright out of them. You could honestly pick up the note packet and leave and still do fine in the class. Exams can be long and questions can be very specific so you just have to meorize things word for word.

Prepares reading packages and goes over any important material multiple times. Tests are long and challenging. Go to review sessions. Doesn't grade labs. Try to participate in discussion in class or ask questions outside of class - makes a difference if he gets to know you.

Comment:
He's unpredicatble in his testing and grading methods. Its not the really class that you can work toward. Who gets an A and who gets an A- does not depend on the competence of the student, it depends on his bipolar grading techniques. He's also really lazy and unpredictable. Great class if you don't like learning and if you are content with a B+/A-

Pick up a 20 page packet each class (1 Concept sheet and ~19 figures/images). He talks his way through the packet, using an projector. Humorous, but the class seems to drag on. Tests were tough- best to use HIS words when filling out short answer. Not many office hours, but has a review before exams.

Leibel is a poor advisor. He is typically unprepared for class, labs, and meetings. He is an ideas man, and you will hear some profound thinking, but he will not go out of his way for you.

Comment:
This guy knows so much it's ridiculous. He emphasizes learning concepts over memorization, which you'll need to do because there is just too much to memorize. The tests sometimes are a little obtuse, but he made a conscious effort throughout the semester to fix that. Great guy, I enjoyed his class.

I hated biology until I took his class. He is energetic and fascinated by what he is teaching. The feeling was contagious. Biology was not difficult because he is very clear about his expectations and his quizzes are in the same format as his exams.
