Dr Aba-Laban is excellent. She taught me during my undergraduate and graduate degrees and she is second to none. Not only is she a leader in her field, but she is savvy, and she cares about her students. Students who work with her are phenomenally lucky because she is such a strong mentor.

Dr Abu-Laban is amazing. She's a leader in her field yet committed to students and so very helpful. She and her work are inspirational. I'm so glad I took this course. I highly recommend it.

Extremely average prof. She is dry and dull at times, to the point it is painful to listen. The materials are often outdated and the new stuff she seems not to be aware of.

She is a great prof. Sometimes she comes off as not really understanding material since she hesitates but she really is very knowledgable. Fair marker, not extremely hard nor extremely easy.

Worst professor - avoid her classes! Where do I begin? She is disorganized and a poor speaker. I did well in her class, but it was painful to hear talk about topics and concepts that were so outdated or did not even closely resonate with the course. Avoid!!

This was a 300 level class and she treated like it was Poli Sci 101. Went over basic and elementary terms and concepts and tried to engage class in discussion but due to her awkwardness there were many times where there was an uncomfortable silence in the class where no one answered. Avoid this prof, she is a nice person but not a prof of quality.

Comment:

Yasmeen was one of the best professors I had in my undergraduate degree. She was very helpful and was always avaliable if I had questions. In-class discussion was always interesting and the readings she assigned were well-chosen. She was also very kind and allowed me an extension when I was struggling with my mental health. Amazing professor!

Yasmeen is a very understanding professor, but her class was dreadful. Very poor public speaker (says "umm" every 2-3 words) and cannot answer questions clearly. Also very ill-prepared, her midterm consisted of a single essay question and she didn't have papers marked before the final. Minimal feedback, hard marker, relied on texts too much.

Dr. Abu-Laban is an AMAZING professor. Take away the lectures and classroom, she really cares for her students. She provides good feedback on written work, and is very understanding of the student lifestyle. She definitely teaches more than just information from a book. I HIGHLY recommend her!

Dr. Abu-Laban is an excellent prof. She understands her material exceptionally well, but she also allows room for students to express themselves and discuss with each other. Incredibly helpful with assignments and a very fair marker. If you don't do your readings or attend class, you'll probably fail.

I was so interested in this class by the title and description and syllabus -but was EXTREMELY disappointed. I got the the point where it wasn't even worth going anymore. She rarely contributed to discussion, let class time wander to irrelevant topics, so never had any good insight to share (despite what any articles would indicate). NEVER AGAIN!!!

Obviously 200 sucks, but Abu-Laban is not to blame for the boring ass 200 level curriculum. I found her really warm, though a lot of students treated her coldly which may have put her on the defense. Her upper level courses are a blast and her published articles on immigration are very insightful. And come on, she is so hot.

She's interesting and knowledgeable, but her lectures can be very unfocused and you wonder if you're really learning what you'll need to know. She doesn't moderate class discussions well; even when someone's completely wrong, she'll let it slide and move on to the next person. Really nice, though.
