Comment:
The professor is very good with his math and expects the same from his students. His homeworks are way tougher than the exams in most cases. His recommended text book was completely useless. His notes are somewhat useful but his lectures are generally not engaging.

Comment:
This course is rather difficult in terms of the mathematical knowledge required. If you are willing to read and understand the proof from the textbook, you should be fine. If you study a lot and pay attention to most of the homeworks you will be fine. Be as clear as possible in terms of proof writing.

Comment:
This class is not easy. However, Prof. Jiang's aim is to expose you to the various techniques in solving complex optimization problems. If you practice the problems from the homeworks and familiarize yourself with MATLAB or any program that can solve optimization problems, you should do fine. Exams are highly theoretical so know the theory also!

This course is very difficult and the lectures offer little help in understanding the material. The HWs don't help in preparing for the exams but, his exams are very straightforward. He also curves big time, if you can try to understand the basics of the material you can get a good grade.
