on the hw he will take multiple points off if you even use one adjective that could be slightly wrong. dont even take this class unless youre familiar with astronomy. i took this thinking it was be constellations and stuff but its not. its boring. if youre taking this to fulfill an NS requirement dont take it. the exams are super hard dont reccomen

Comment:

He's a great teacher. The grading is pretty unclear since it's graded on a curve where you're compared to other students. He's very specific on his tests, so you MUST pay attention for a decent grade. He's too qualified to be teaching this class. Students are obnoxious towards him, and he's really nice back.

Comment:

Dr. Bochner is a very gifted lecturer. He makes one of the toughest classes on campus much easier to grasp. With that said, he is a red pen artist on the tests and homework. He expects a lot from you in 140. Read the book. Be neat and explain your steps. The 140 Midterm and Final are open textbook, but the tests are still extremely hard.

Comment:

Professor Bochner really knows his stuff and can portray it well. If you attend class and copy the notes/drawings he puts on the board, you should be fine. He gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit, so if you don't do well on the tests (midterm was easy, final a bit harder) it's not the end of the world.

Comment:

Professor Bochner knows too much about astronomy and physics to be teaching an intro astronomy class. He's simply too over-qualified in his field. He's still an excellent teacher and is a lot of fun in class. Just the purest nerd out there.

If you go to class and copy what he draws (or at least tries, he not the best artist) on the bored you'll do well on all the homework. The class is pretty laid back as long as you aren't disrupting other students. The worst part is that you have an 8 page paper you will need to write, but the midterm and final are pretty easy.

I just finished my final for his Astronomy class. I really love space and I'm terrible at math, so this class was perfect. I highly suggest taking his class if you enjoy learning about space. Come ready with questions and comments because participation is 20% of the class. I would recommend him; he's a good professor.

Probably the worst professor I have had at Hofstra. Extremely rude to students and treated a distribution class as a major course, including a ten page paper. EXTREMELY hard grader, takes off points for every little mistake

He's very passionate about what he teaches and he knows everything so well. If you write down everything he writes down on the board, easy A. Might be boring for those who aren't interested in the field, but I absolutely loved him.

Awesome professor! I decided to minor in Astronomy solely because of how interesting he made everything sound! Textbook use is fairly low. If you go to class, pay attention, and take good notes, your homework is done for you and his tests are that much easier. If i could take him again, I totally would.

This guy knows his stuff. He makes some jokes, the class is interesting, and he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. He can get frustrated at times, and he is kinda awkward. My tip, if you take him, go to class, take notes, and do the homework. The tests mostly consists of the homework which comes from the notes. It's easy.

Trys to make jokes in the class and keep in intresting but will get really frustrated if noone knows an answer or if noone participates. Hands out homework once in a while, its pretty easy but his mid term and exam was really hard. But he always offers extra credit. Knows what hes talking about, just a boring class

This guy is a space geek, hence he knows just what he's talking about. He's so smart when it comes to astronomy, he knows like everything there is to know about it, even complex theories. We came up with the nickname "The Roboch". All the tests and HWs are based on notes, so if you attend class,pay attention, and study,this class shouldn't be hard

Do NOT take this class. Way too intense, hws and tests ridiculously hard. If you miss a class you're screwed cuz everything is from his notes. Not helpful, gets annoyed if you don't understand everything. This class screwed my GPA. Stay away from anything he teaches!!

Bochner is a geek, but he knows what he's talking about and tries to make class interesting and funny. Participate, he will mess with your grade if you don't and class will be even more boring. Pay attention and take notes because questions on HW and midterm/final are directly used. If you just put in effort, you'll do fine.
