Comment:

I loved Professor Trist! I did not enjoy the material in Oceans and did not put in the effort for a good grade. (I took it P/NP and just wanted to get my physical science breadth out of the way) However, she really puts in the effort to make sure you understand the material. She let me resubmit a paper and reached out asking if I needed help.

Comment:

Hilarious! Manages to crack existential jokes while teaching you the material. The material is really interesting but there's a lot of it, so it can be hard keep up if you start slacking. That said, she is super available outside of class, and genuinely wants you to understand the material, and even hosted office hours at a park when campus closed.

Professor Trist is funny and well-liked among students. She covers a lot of material in lecture and the exams are a bit tough if you don't study properly.

Very nice and laid back teacher. Genuinely cares about students. But her lectures are fast paced so it is highly recommended to at least skim the readings before lecture. Go to the reviews before the midterm and final, they are helpful.

Professor Trist was a really amazing teacher. She was always enthusiastic about the material despite how boring it could sometimes be, and although she requires a lot of book you really only need the main textbook (I didn't read out of the course reader at all). I would definitely take her class again!

Professor Trist is passionate about the subject and her students. If you study the lectures and read the textbook you'll be fine. Tests are not easy, but if you study you can get an A and she is a fair grader. Definitely would recommend to take this class! She is amazing!

Amazing teacher, really quirky. She cares about the class and her students. Exams are hard but she grades lovely. Very easy to get a good grade with a small effort. Study the lecture slides and you would be fine.

Professor Trist was my favorite FPF professor. She definitely cares about teaching, and she makes learning entertaining and interesting. The course material was not too difficult to understand. If you're confused just go to office hours and she is more than willing to elaborate.

I LOVE PROFESSOR TRIST! She truly takes the time to get to know her students and is always there to brighten your day. She's so passionate about her subject that you'll end up becoming fascinated by things as seemingly mundane as shipping vessels too. That being said - this was my hardest class this semester so be prepared to work.

Prof. Trist is one of the best professors I've had so far. She's very quirky and likes to make you comfortable through her own awkward humor. She speeds through things sometimes which is frustrating but you'll learn what to not worry about so no need to worry. She cares about everyone and is very accomodating. You'll learn a lot and have fun.

Dr. Trist is funny, charismatic, smart, and an enjoyable professor who cares about her students' success. She is passionate about ocean geography and how it ties in to politics, the economy, history, and cultural issues. Loved her class, learned so much!

Comment:

Really enjoyed this class except she came late to every lecture and section by about five minutes (after Berkeley time). She'd speed through the lectures (reader not needed) but posted everything online and was a great help in office hours. The course covered diverse material and was very interesting, and she's a kind, entertaining, unique person.

Comment:

She cares about the students and cares about the subject. She is a hilarious, engaging lecturer and gives a lot of time to her students in office hours and after class. As a grader, she recognizes that this is not your only responsibility & grades accordingly (she's lenient). She will take the time to get to know you, so give her that. Go to class.

Dr. Trist is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her subject, but I found her lectures somewhat disorganized, and I was frustrated that she (and her co-lecturer Dr. Marsh) nearly always started class late. It seemed disrespectful of our time. She also let the midterm run overtime, disadvantaging students who had to leave for other classes. :-(

Trist is absolutely great! You should really take this class. The material is interesting and straightforward. Lectures can be boring and put online, so attendance not mandatory. Shitton of books to buy, but don't have to read it except reader. very easy! She's incredibly straightforward about what she wants on tests.

Comment:

She is a very passionate person & therefore enjoyable. She makes many jokes because the subject is very somber, but the class is interesting & eye-opening. Some readings are dense, but mostly educational. You learn something new everyday. The Midterm focuses on notes & the Final on notes & readings with a long essay. Essays are short & graded fair.
