If you can avoid her, do it. There is no clear indication what she wants from the assignments. She in unnecessarily mean to the class, and she does not care about her students one bit. DO NOT TAKE HER.

She is a fair grader and takes the time to give good feedback on papers. Assignments for this class were two 5-8pg papers (which are fairly easy, and she gives you prompts to work from), three discussion questions, and two exams (IDs & 2 essays). Keeping up with the readings is essential for success in this class. I really loved her lectures!

The midterm exam was incredibly difficult and the review was not helpful. The test didn't touch on it and was not formatted similarly. Most of the class failed it so she instituted daily quizzes at the start of class that went over the homework which is fine except they are for "class participation". She calls on every student to read in class tho.

Woodward assigns tons of reading and never elaborates on any of it in a way that's helpful. She refuses to clue you in on what's on the tests. Your grade is dependent on two harshly graded papers and two impossible tests. Her behavior, at times, made me uncomfortable. She's mocking and judgemental. Don't take her.

Great professor! This class included a lot of reading that was overwhelming as a full time college student. However, the readings were discussed in class to help you get a better understanding. LEARN is not used, so it is important to go to class. Other than the readings and the papers, the class is enjoyable and informative.

Be prepared to work hard and pull your hair out because of the reading load this class required. I love reading but this professor went overboard and she doesn't clearly explain the key points she wants you to take from a section. Hard tests with no study guide and an unhelpful in-class review.

The papers were really intense. Plan ahead. Sometimes communication with her is difficult so try and be patient. Tests are not structured very well, but they could be worse.

The exams are not difficult if you go over every text we read before the exam. She grades papers fairly and is more than willing to meet with students to discuss their concerns/interests. Good professor.

She is a neat lady. She is nice and caring. However, the midterm and final exams are very difficult-- no review sheet. She does an in-class review, but it won't prepare you for the test. Her lectures are disorganized. She grades papers based on what she likes ; there are no grading rubrics. If you take a class from her, you will have to work hard.

I'm not interested in early English lit so this class was not pleasant, but Woodward herself is a nice woman willing to help her students. She's a bit disorganized but grades fairly and offers useful information that made the material fun. Several group projects which are tedious. However, pretty good class overall.

18-19th century lit is her specialty, so the context she gave us for our texts in this class was relevant, interesting, and helpful. The workload is pretty extensive, and keeping up with reading is essential. The tests aren't that hard and she's gotten better at punctuality. She's great!

I would never take her again. She is one of the worst professors I have had. Shows up late, is hard to follow in her lecture and often gets distracted. Did not like her style of teaching at all.

I loved her!! No, it wasn't the easiest class, at least when it came to the tests. But she totally works with you! She'll even work with your test anxiety and give you a take home if you ask her. She's sweet and genuinely wants to do anything she can to help you pass. The workload isn't bad at all, though she does return things slow.

She cares about her students and works with them. The subject matter is always interesting, and she is engaged with it. Yes, she has a problem with tardiness, but she is lenient with her students. I thoroughly recommend her as a compassionate and caring professor.

Shows up late, returns assignments late, uses Wikipedia as her favorite research source, says a name once and expects you to know everything about that person or work, was very much underprepared for classes (she would start a lesson and realize she didn't actually remember the subject thoroughly). Not recommended.

If you don't mind not knowing what is expected, if you don't care about punctuality, if you don't mind a total lack of direction, if you don't mind learning about things that have nothing to do with the class, if you love piles of work with no notice, and if love excuses, making them and receiving them... this is your favorite teacher.

Yes, she did tend to show up late and was pretty bad about getting graded papers back to us. But, she was also flexible when we would have to turn in papers late, too. But an awful lot of work, and the subjects she chose for us to write about were fairly limiting, so I imagine she read the same paper 20 times each time one was due. Also limiting in the sources we could use for our research.
