Our whole grade was 3 tests and a paper. He spends half the class talking about basketball and poptarts. I learned nothing, but at least he found a way to pass me, since your grade is basically your opinion on the subject.

I had Cap'n Dave for my very first on-campus course, and I count myself very lucky. The man is brilliant, but won't Lord that fact over you during the course. He's very patient with people who don't "get it" right away. You must study to pass his tests, and you must know how to write to get an A on the paper. Just work hard, and you'll be rewarded.

The guy is hilarious! Always going off on tangents, stories and such. Just a heads up-if his class were a movie it would be rated R. Somehow he manages to always find his way back to the point he was making. His class is very interesting, and while attendance is not mandatory there is a participation grade.

Capn' Dave is awesome. Going to be out of town? No problem, he will email you his lecture. Want some feedback on your paper before you turn it in? Done. Want to have a lecture you will actually want to listen to? Got it. Read the material, have a good time, and pass it easy. You will have to read, if you wont, you will not do well.

Sweet Jesus what a horrible class. I'm an A student, worked so hard to get a B, the majority of my study time was dedicated to this class. PRO: real nice guy, cares about concepts instead of spelling/grammar, good office hours CON: not very good at teaching, lectures all over the place (usually not about the material), issues with volume control

Was the first class that I took after a decade of procrastinating going back to college. I love his enthusiasm to work with you, if you are willing to work for the grade in return. Even a year later, I was watching "The Good Place", and his lessons were the first things to come to mind.

NO. NO. NO. from day one he tells you that you'll never make anything above a C in his class. absolutely true. if you don't understand what he talks about during class then you'll never pass the tests. always off topic. simpsons this, basketball that. super abstract. no BB. test questions are vague. just pick another elective and avoid this one

Loves to hear himself talk, but pretty fun to listen to. Lectures go way off topic, hard to follow sometimes. Super hard grader. Worked my butt off for a B. Very laid back and likeable, extreme extrovert. Be prepared to be put on the spot. Try to understand the basic concepts - material is very abstract. Tests are choose 3 of 4, short answer.

I would not recommend this teacher at all! Constantly gets off subject to share stories about his wife who is a lawyer and daughter and talks about basketball. He lets you know from the first day an A is almost impossible. His are lectures confusing and you will get nothing from them. Worst professor ever! I had no choice but to take him.

I LOVE HIM, as a person. He goes off on tangents and bs every 15 minutes, but it's fun and engaging. The actual lecture parts are great. Tests are short answer, pick-3-of-the-4-to-answer kinda thing. Doesn't hand out A's freely. 3 Tests, 2 Papers (1 two page, 1 four page). He teaches well, it's the material that's hard, and he understands that.

I took dr nakamaye's class over ten years ago. I was an awful student and came in late almost daily but he always greeted me with "Jon boy" when I came in. If I could redo things I would be an hour early every day. The first day of class he wore a slayer shirt. He put in a shiw every class with a lecture style that was creative and relevant.

Sparknotes will SAVE YOU if you struggle with his classes, esp the reading material. He's great with sitting down and one-on-one information but his lectures can be SUPER jumpy and confusing and would advise always getting a recording. ALWAYS ask questions. Tries to connect with his students. Really awesome teacher. Hard grader but pays attention

Cap'n Dave is awesome. If you're shy, he'll leave you alone, but he really likes to interact with students and make them a part of his lectures. His tests are short and easy. He grades pretty tough though - the class is easy to pass but hard to get an A. I worked my butt off and got an B.

Class is fun, but I felt he doesn't provide enough materials to know regarding Phil. How hard you try, the result is grade C.I surely regretted for this class. He doesn't use BB and you do not know your grade of journals, attendance and paper till the end of semester. Not again!

Great teacher, very very humorous and playful, he would start the day with a joke rather than a quiz, never worry about pop quiz and stuff, he's more than willing to go over topics multiple times and offers help outside of class. You never feel like you're in a "class" when he's teaching. Great teacher took 2 of his classes both fantastic.

Oh, what a class it is! If you want an A, this is not the class, if you want a B not a class for you, but yes, if you require a C this is the class.I did not learn anything from this class though, maybe Capt. Dave expected much in a intro. Phil class to afford a C grade.I ask everyone, and they have all the Cs. :(

He doesn't give handouts or materials to study. Whatever is learned in class is what you are supposed to write in exams.2 exams,a journal, and final paper. Forget about getting an A,and this class will effect my GPA for sure. Class is fun but if you don't get a good grade then it's a torture.

Capt'n Dave is very lively, funny but also very ADD. He gets off on tangents that can be offensive, and can last for 30 minutes but he is a nice guy! He makes learning Philosophy fun and will bend over backwards for his students if you ask! Thoroughly enjoyed his class!
