He is the coolest teacher I have ever seen. If you go to his office, you will see how great he can be. I love his class!

Comment:

Stokes' classes were some of my favorite at Winthrop. He rambles (and rambles and rambles, which can get confusing) but his feedback is good, if a bit much. He's very lenient, but he ensures that everyone's work is finished, and doesn't mind changing up outdated curriculum + his personal work is impressive (better than some VCOM profs). I dig it.

Stokes is a hilarious guy but very very unorganized. He's TOO lenient on deadlines which turns into having to finish three major projects the last day of class to make up for lost time. He never really explained the point of any of the projects and barely instructed the class.

Comment:

He's one of the best teachers I had! He understood how difficult the VCOM classes can be for freshmen and let his class be a little breather. You can tell he loves what he does and is constantly engaged in coming up with new ideas and helping students. He encouraged students to care more about the food than the plate it was on.

Professor Stokes is a great guy who is very passionate about this class. Unfortunately, he is very unorganized and seemingly confused about the class himself. If you show some initiative and effort he will help you out but be prepared to be very frustrated. I made an A.

He is a painfully, unbearably, boring teacher. He rambles on and on about useless info. If you ask him a question, he will take about 30 minutes to talk about it when there is a simple explanation. He is very unorganized. Half the time he doesn't know what he is doing. I hate this class. Good luck if you have him.

He is a really funny guy but doesn't always know what he is trying to say. He seems to be absent minded sometimes but is a really nice guy! He is always willing to help out and hardly keeps class the full 3 hrs. Oh he also likes to let us go to Java City to get coffee... lol

Comment:

Stokes knows a lot about Typography, but has a really hard time telling you. Everyone else's comments pretty much summed it up. Pros: don't have to go to class, he's funny, he's smart, good grade guaranteed; cons: virtually NO critiques (you're pretty much all alone when he assigns all the last projects at the same time).

Typography is the most mind numbing course I've ever taken and it is not just Stokes' fault. He teaches what all of the other teachers teach which would ok without so much busy work. However, his constant orating in which he makes up and answers his own questions make class painfully boring. Also, asking questions doesn't tend to work as he tend

So funny. By the end of the semester you and your classmates would have picked up phrases like "hurt locker" and "ham fist." Dave the Rave definitely knows his stuff in 251, and does keep the assignments slightly vague...but to your advantage. 261 was just easy. Cool guy, goes on tangents, very helpful but you have to ask.

Stokes is one of those professors that fling you into the wild. Granted, he goes on several tangents quite frequently, most of them are quite hilarious, and while not useful, very interesting. Overall his classes are helpful. His vagueness with you actually pushes the projects further.

I'm not quite sure if he really knows what he is doing. He makes pointless, superfluous speaches that aren't helpful at all. He's nice and you'll get a good grade, but you won't learn that much and you'll definitely be bored.

Never arrives on time, never takes attendance. Sounds great but really gets on your nerves! I was never clear on the requirements for projects and I was never encouraged to go to class because we never did anything when I went! Totally frustrating!

Helpful teacher with A LOT of advice to give, just be prepared when he gets on his soapbox about things...you'll listen for three hours straight and leave with a numb ass and mind. Otherwise, he's a great teacher who cares a lot.
