Professor Riley taught the material in lots of different ways to keep it interesting, with lots of videos, readings, and discussions. Some lessons were boring, but if you're interested in the development of education, you'll like it. She helped me a lot with my research paper. It's an easy class if you read the materials and think about them a litt

Comment:

Over all I liked the class but I know a lot of my peers did not. I wasn't bothered by her meticulous teaching method and I was interested in the subject. If you aren't interested in either education or politics don't take the class--you just won't enjoy yourself.

She talks about social justise but she's totally top down.She's so anal and if you don't do things her way your screwed.She's smart but makes things more complicated then they need to be.I studied some of the stuff we read before her class and I was more confused then before.She's good when you meet with her but she's inflexible with meeting times.

Comment:

I don't agree with any of the negative comments below. I thought that Riley was difficult, but I learned more in her class than any other class that I've taken at Skidmore. At first I didn't think I'd like the subject matter, but she made it interesting and fun by having different activities planned for every class. I HIGHLY recommend her class.

Professor Riley is a great teacher, she tries to make classes interesting by changing the atmosphere... videos, class discussions, group discussions, etc. The subject matter was not that interesting, but she made it enjoyable.

I had her the first year she was at skidmore and I completely agree with this comment so I will just paste it again below because it's exactly what I was going to type: "I didn't find her helpful at all. There seemed to be no pleasing her, even though I followed her suggestions in my student teaching placement. She focuses on the negative aspects of everything & will write you a 5 page epistle of what you did wrong."

Prof. Riley knows her material very well and is very devoted. However, the class was so boring it's amazing I stayed awake. She is very nice and the work is easy, but that entire room needed a shot of caffeine.

she worked us hard in class but was always available for help if we needed. she's been teaching in schools (not colleges) for a long time so she has a lot of experience. she expects only the best out of her students and most students work harder than they would otherwise, which is a good thing.
