Dr. Eddins is wonderful!! I took him for Identity in Modern Fiction. Very easy class. You do have to read a lot, but he picks interesting novels & short stories. Pop quizzes, so read before you come. Term paper, another paper, quizzes, and final make up your grade. He teaches a lot about life & gives wisdom to his students!

I took Dr. Eddins for a modern poetry honors seminar, but I learned so much more than just poetry. He adds lots of fun facts and anecdotes in his lecture about other fields of study and life in general. He knows a lot. The midterm is a pretty big paper, but everything else is easy, low-energy work. The material he chooses for class is interesting.

Years later - still a major influence in my life - he knew his stuff and helped all of us to know it, too. One of the best - in school and in life

Professor Eddins is a great professor and former Rhodes scholar who is extremely well-equipped to teach UH 300: Identity in Modern Fiction. There is a lot of assigned reading, but I never minded because I enjoy reading and the material he assigns is interesting and well-written. You will learn about yourself and great works of literature.

i took eddins for modern poetry and the nietzsche class, and he is hands down the best teacher i've ever had. after listening to him for just one lecture, you will be enlightened. there is a lot of reading and writing paper, but he is easy with grading. i'm an awful writer and haven't gotten lower than an A- on anything.

Dr. Eddins's Nietzsche class is a must-take because he offers so many interesting perspectives and comparisons to the works of the famous German philosopher. There is a fair amount of reading, but he grades the papers pretty easily and is very engaging in his lectures.

Loved Dr. Eddins!! Sweetest old man you'll ever meet. I loved this class just because he was wonderful. Had to write a couple responses on what you thought the poet was saying, but he gives you an A for participation if you attempt it. You have a midterm, a final, and one paper--and the final is open book! Super easy honors credit and he is a joy.

I took his Nietzsche philosophy class, and although the readings are great and Eddins is an expert, the work load is unfathomable. You read so much for this class, you don't have time to do anything for any other class. There's a summary paper due at least once a week and there are quizzes for the readings you aren't writing papers on. Exhausting.

I did really like the class because I'm not that into Nietzsche, but it was totally unbearable. In class, I just underlined all the passages he went over and I was able to get A's on all my papers.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Dr. Eddins. He is extremely intelligent and was probably one of the most well-versed teachers I have ever had. You can tell that he is enamored with what he teaches and knows something about everything. He even keeps up with the times, so his sources are not dated. He always had something profound to say. Take him if you can.

Comment:
In modern poetry, all we do is listen to him talk about poetry. When we write papers, we have to prove HIS ideas and thoughts about the poetry, not our own. I was very excited about this class, and it is my least favorite class now. He is hard to understand, I don't know why because he speaks perfect English, but I rarely understand him.

All we did in the modern poetry seminar was listen to him talk about poetry. It was interesting, but attendance didn't seem necessary for a good grade... but he did take roll. Writing based class. Very knowledgeable, funny old man. May have gone back into retirement by now. :)

Eddins is retired now but if he ever comes back I would highly recommend taking a class from him. I took Topics of American Lit 1900-1945. The class was purely lecture, but he is was an amazing speaker and very intelligent. He has not only been a great instructor but also an advisor and a friend.

He gave a lot of reading, but that's expected. The class was mostly lectures, which got boring after a while. The final was pretty hard because we had to compare 2 or 3 stories, with no prior knowledge of which stories he would pick. He's still pretty good overall.

One of the two bests professors I ever had at the University of Alabama. Droll sense of humor. Very funny. If you don't like to think, then he may not be for you. Make sure to add puns in discussions or on papers whenever you can...he will appreciate it.

Very helpful if you show up for class. Extremely knowledgeable, and has sadistic sense of humor so beware. Generally grades fairly easy if demonstrate any knowledge of text and SHOW UP for class though he usually has very lax attendance policy.

Dr. Eddins class is very informative. You have to keep up with the reading, or you will fall behind. Grade is based on one paper and a final. He talks very softly, so sit up front.

This professor has a very pedestrian way of speaking. He tries to insult students with clever one liners. He would be a good script writer for the NBC dog "Triumph".
