Loved Mr. Funk! I took his intro to philosophy class during May intersession, it was his first time teaching online. He is funny, has interesting and interactive lectures, and clear grading criteria. Gives clear explanations of the readings. Moderate amount of reading, but he went over all of it in lectures. Would totally take him for full semester

I was hoping for better based on the reviews. The material was interesting, but he seemed mostly checked out. I got more out of the reading than out what he had to say. Nice enough guy, but he didn't seem to have his heart in it.

My favorite class this semester. I havent been on top of the readings, but he explains things clearly in lecture, records his lectures for students, and is easily accessible if you need help.

Took the Jan intersession class. Had a quiz every other day. Midterm and final alone are 70% of the grade, so make sure you show up and listen. Very easy grader but the questions are tough. His availability is great and makes sure to answer questions thoroughly.

Funkhouser is awesome. Metaphysics is not the easiest thing to grasp, but he kept it fun and entertaining. All paper/essay grading, but he does a good job of showing you exactly what he expects with his feedback. Lectures were fun, and he does a good job of letting the class explore the material as opposed to forcing it down a certain path. Take!

I was hesitant to take philosophy, but really enjoyed his class. I took it as an intercession course, so lots thrown at you quickly but he kept it fun, clear, and stuck to the points being taught instead of preaching his opinions as fact. He's good at analogies to clarify & enthusiastic about questions. Tests are essay- but not too hard.

Funkhouser is a really cool guy. I didn't read any of the material, but usually read the spark notes online before class. VERY few grades (2 tests, 1 paper, 1 final) so you have to do well when it matters. Lectures were usually pretty boring but it was good to pay attention & take good notes that you could study later on for the tests.

I took Dr. Funkhouser for Metaphysics and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He guides students in a way that doesn't penalize them for misunderstanding material. Funk is more interested in getting students to the right answers and the "why" of the journey. Amazing professor, great guy, real person, take him!

Loved this class. He is very funny and keeps it entertaining with his humor. If he taught other classes, I'd take him. His tests were essay format, and I would recommend reading the texts. He can tell if you BS :)

Funk is a perfect professor for whichever level of philosophy he is teaching. His intro level teaching is phenomenal. His ability to explain material is strong and his patience is even stronger. If you're taking PHIL for a requirement, he is what you want. If for Metaphysics or anything upper level, he is what you need.

Funk is fantastic! Love love love him. Had his honors intro to philosophy class. If you go to class and take notes, you don't need to read the books. He's so nice, very funny. Engage in conversation with him- he likes that.

Professor Funkhouser is excellent. Laid back, but seriously serious about the subject. Spends a few minutes chatting at the beginning of class and will digress to answer questions or make another point. Accommodating, and quick to respond to questions. A definite must for the interested student or just as an experience. Don't be afraid to discuss!

Class is really fun and you also learn a lot. Perfect balance of the two. He is quite sassy and witty, which also adds on to the enjoyment of the class. The info can be pretty difficult, but he uses different examples to clarify fuzzy issues. Pretty okay workload. Id recommend all people to take a class of his.

Relatively easy class. I didnt read any books and skipped class a few times and made a B. Had I studied harder, I would have had an A. You don't need to read the books because he covers everything from them in class. Tests are straight from the study guide but more detailed.

Good professor, very dry sense of humor but funny nonetheless. I didn't read any of the books but took notes the entire time. First 20 minutes he talks about sports and entertainment (tmz). I would take this class again, our class was an awesome group and Prof Funk made it all the more interesting. Study hard though, the tests can be complex and are essay only and worth 400 points.

You don't have to read the books b/c he covers it in class. The tests are straight forward from the reading. Just know facts and what the philosophers said and maybe examples and you'll get As. Class discussion was awesome and engaging. I loved that class. Dr. Funk was super helpful before exams. He's goofy but makes you think. GREAT TEACHER!

In the honor's section, very difficult tests (all essay). Not extremely helpful. Expects you to know things about assignments that he doesn't say, and then counts off. A bit condescending. Not a fan of philosophy.

no one wants to take philosophy and funkhouser actually makes it interesting and bearable. and the comments about him not being helpful are completely false. he is quite possibly one of the most helpful teachers i've ever had. you don't have to any of the reading bc he explains them in class. tests are straight for the notes. very easy class!

I was in his honors class. He's a nice guy, but he never relents when students try to argue or disagree with him; he just gets annoyed. Some of his examples were helpful, and some were confusing. He doesn't give enough time for tests, but I still did pretty well. I skipped a lot and still got an A. He's probably good to take.

Really easy class. I attended every lecture, took notes and never had to read. He can be funny and spends the first 10 minutes or so talking about off topic subjects with the students. At the same time he really knows his stuff and has interesting insight into some controversial topics.
