His class was so hard. I didn't understand it at all. I had to go to tutoring every week. That was the only reason I passed. He would like get mad at us when we didn't know the answer. He's like "how do you guys not know this?" and I'm thinking "because we never learned it" (in my high school). Very, very hard class. My head would spin after tutor

Dr. Lutz is Tough but he really does care about helping you help YOURSELF when understanding the material. To this day Dr. Lutz is always in the back of my mind when I am writing a document for work. He would spend hours with me going over my papers. I appreciate everything that he did for me! Take him and your writing can improve drastically!!!

I have him for Comp. 1 and it is most definitely a challenging course but I have learned a lot from him. He is incredibly intelligent and as a result of that I can understand why he may come off as arrogant even though I have never known him to be. He expects you come to class everyday with all required materials. Very intolerant of lazy people.

Very tough and unorthodox grader. Can be very odd and awkward at times too. But he taught me a good bit when it came to business writing and all of his assignments had real-world application. Super smart guy.

Although there is an assignment due almost every week and he is a very tough grader, you will learn SO much if you pay attention. He is very intelligent and will share so much information with you. Some days are pretty boring, but I loved this class.

Lutz is a decent professor. He does give a lot of essay assignments though. Therefore, I suggest starting your essays in advance. Overall I learned a lot from him though, and he was my favorite teacher my freshman semester of college. Best professor hands down!!!

Arrogant. I understand that english writing is very opinionated, but he does not. He believes in "specificity" where you basically go beyond the typical adjectives. For example, if you mention jeans in your paper, be prepared to talk about the material, the company that makes them, the height, waist size, number of pockets, and the shade of color.

Lutz is beyond just a tough grader. He goes far beyond what anyone would expect. The man grades for what HE likes and wants not based on what is correct. Both professors and employers have praised my writing, however he has never given me better then a B. It's impossible to please him and that is not what education is about.

Gary Lutz is a decent professor, but he was very rude in the beginning of the semester. This is college though and you need to have thick skin. If you get offended easily, don't take him. Tests are very easy and the essays are easy if you follow the criteria for the given essay. I studied the night before on all of the tests, I and received A's.

Lutz is the most arrogant teacher I've ever had. He talks down upon his students as a whole and does not seem to want to be teaching a freshman English course. We aren't allowed to use our notes to answer his questions and when we do we are told we cannot use his words to describe but we're frowned upon when we use our own descripitions.

Took him last year. It's an easy A if you do the following... 1 - always be as specific as you you can! Always add details! The more the better 2 - take advantage of the bonus he gives you! 3 - study for the quizzes! 4 - go into his office and have him read your essays. He will guide you thru everything he wants. Really cool dude

Gary is a horrible professor. He is incredibly arrogant and even ventured to call our entire class illiterate because we did poor on our first essay. He does not explain anything well. He will tell you how much detail he wants in your essay and then take points off for it being to "wordy" when you add detail. Very awkward as well.

He truly does care about his students; and will try to help you (That semi-colon put there is actually thanks to him explaining comma-splice errors to me) succeed. But, he is an extremely harsh grader, as my first 3 essays all received Cs at best, yet in Highschool every essay I wrote was an A. Overall, he's great, but he makes you work for it.

This class was super easy. Write 3 stories and 1 critical paper. We read one story from several books before we turned anything in. Each class was peer-reviewing. He graded incredibly fairly. I had one B and two As. Worth every minute and I learned a ton! Just be prepared to write non-fiction and then call it fiction. Otherwise, you're screwed.

His class was hard, yes, but also incredibly useful. If you think you know anything about grammar, you're wrong. Go to class, do the homework, and pay attention. And you'll do just fine. If you don't, you can definitely expect to fail.

Gary Lutz is an EXTREMELY interesting guy! He is sooo helpful, and will explain anything you need! However, do not expect that his class will be an easy ride, because he expects you to write a lot! And he is very picky with grammar, but in the end it will benefit you!
