All you had to do in this class was speak up. Even if you have something to say only loosely related to the discussion, just say it; Professor Irby will automatically like you and not call on you for difficult questions if you voluntarily contribute. Projects were fun, readings were dull but in class Irby made discussing them much more interesting.

Dr. Irby is a sweet and caring professor. There is a large amount of reading, but she is accessible outside of class whenever needed. She gives study guides for the quizzes that are almost word for word, and grades projects/writing assignments easily. Overall, Dr. Irby wants all of her students to succeed.

Professor Irby is a great professor who cares about her students. She will help you out in class when she asks us to translate passages and sentences. You sometimes have to practice on the verb forms, because she doesn't go over them in real depth in class. By the way, the exams she makes are very simple and easy. Overall, she is the best at WM.

Comment:
I had professor Irby for two classes this semester and absolutely loved her. She is super knowledgable and excited about the subject. She genuinely wants her students to do well, so her study guides for exams were very specific and she held review sessions for both the midterm and final. I didn't think exams were too hard as long as you studied.

Never have I ever had a more compassionate and supportive professor who loved for you to find ways her class relates to any of your outside interests. She is always happy and fills you with energy the moment you enter her class. Definitely recommend taking her fun and interesting COLL 100 class, even though there is a lot of reading.

Irby assigns a lot of work, so I had to pick and choose with translations. She's an amazing teacher and wrote both textbooks. She is so sweet and helpful. Love her! However, this class is a lot of work and not easy!!! So be warned. I learned a lot, but ended up switching back to Spanish because of the time commitment her class requires.

Professor Irby is extremely passionate about ancient historians. If this is your first ancient course, you'll feel lost at times. The readings are really interesting though (and it's a lot of reading). I'd recommend her course- she's fun and keeps it interesting!

Prof. Irby is a fun lecturer who made me want to come to class. I didn't do most of the readings (except the Aeneid) since 90% of the information is in her lecture powerpoints (available online). Tests are reasonable if you follow the study guide and use Quizlet.com to study. Final exam was easy. Lets you choose your own final project.

Roman Civ sucks. The tests are crazy hard, the prof is unclear and is unhelpful when it comes to studying, and you will be tested on the tiniest details. I had high hopes for this class, but they died along with my GPA.

Awesome professor. She is incredibly enthusiastic, fun, and knowledgeable. Her class was very hard and demanding, required you to translate in class, and fairly in-depth exams, but she is very willing to help. She provided extra credit opportunities, and as a bonus, show a couple comis strip at the start of every class.

very good. pretty straight forward in what she expects on exams. just go over the translations before tests and she usually hints at which passages will be on the test. pretty standard teaching style. fun class as long as you're interested in the class.

Irby-Massie is a fabulous professor. She's clearly very enthusiastic about Classics, and it makes both her lectures and her review sessions interesting. When I started the class, I was afraid of her infamous study guides and nit-picky tests, but found that if you study, the tests are really pretty easy. Gives random quizzes, but they're not hard.

she's a great teacher and really wants her students to enjoy Greek and think outside the box. work consists of reading Greek passages before class and translating in class, also weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final. tests consist of translating 1 or 2 Greek passages and answering some syntax and usage questions

mythology, very interesting class and a good teacher, but the tests were very difficult, for each one you have to know 200 mythological names, so if you want a good grade it is a lot of memorization

Irby-Massie is pretty fun to take a class with, albeit annoying at times, but it's fairly easy. It's cool we get to watch movies in the class, but she makes us write a review on the stuff we watch, although she's an easy grader on writing. A great class overall.

Irby-Massie is a great professor, she made ancient Greek fun and understandable. The language is hard, but if you like Latin you'll also like Greek. She is helpful and there are a lot of quizzes, which makes it easy to make up a bad one here or there.

I loved this class. Prof. I-M loves what she teaches and really wants you as a student to learn the material. The midterm was a bit tough, but if you work and show interest it pays off. This was my first classic civ course and I got an A without too much difficulty, but you HAVE to put in the time and the effort.

Tests are extremely detail oriented, but if you go through the study guide and make sure you know all of the names and themes you should be fine. She's really helpful if you have any questions outside of class. She's nerdy, enthusiastic, and a lot of fun :)
