This professor was awesome. Gave a great survey of Business Statistics. It is a shame she will no longer be teaching at Georgetown's McDonough School of Business. She will be missed. Grade Recieved: A

Her lectures are the worst, you do need to go to class but just to fill in the notes packet she gives you and you can basically teach yourself, you don't need to pay attention. Her tests can be easy, but she takes off points for everything. If you're really lost she's awesome in office hours. B Stats is hard but she's the best option teacher though

Hoell is probably your best bet for bstat. She gives everyone a packet that you literally fill out during class and those are your notes. Difficult class but if you go, pay attention, and use those notes it's not too horrible. The length of the class was brutal, but just go & write down the notes and you're fine

As someone else said, only take this class if you are interested in raw memorization, rather than understanding. Professor Hoell is a brutally nit-picky grader, forcing you to jump through hoops that other professors deem inconsequential. There is no reward for improvement, and the grading scheme difficulty is highly irregular. Take someone else.

If you know math, you will have no problem aceing every test and final. She lectures at you like you are in elementary school, and although boring, it's not necessarily a bad thing at all! Take advantage of the huge amounts of extra credit she offers! She has to be the easiest BusStat professor. With any decent math skills you should do very well!

Professor Hoell is boring. She can drone on in a monotone voice for a very long time. With that being said, she wants her students to do well and if you can stay awake and pay attention, she's really easy to follow logically. Her tests are no laughing matter so be prepared to study

Professor Hoell is excellent. Take her for Bstats. Extremely helpful and genuinely wants everyone to do well. If you do the work you'll be rewarded; grades very fairly.

If you believe in understanding over memorization do not take this class. I spent most of my time memorizing her format for problem solving over understanding how I get answers. There are multiple rules for homework (ie it must be folded, signed, dated, etc) failure to do this results in no credit. She is OCD and you lose because of it

Stretches a week of material into 2/3 of a semester. 2 credit class ends a month early which is nice. Class is boring, but tests are a little tricky...not much time given and points are taken off for tiny mistakes. Beware of group case project...took our group 20+ hours of work

This was probably the most painful class I've ever attended at Georgetown. I had it from 8-9:40am and it was terrible sitting still for 100 minutes. Prof. Hoell is very kind and tries to be engaging, but there's only so much you can do to make stats interesting. Wasn't too difficult...made an A- with moderate effort.

People seem to love her or hate her...I fall into the latter camp. 1:40min stat class with her is EXCRUCIATING. Yeah, I guess she's clear, but that's because she just screeches in that shrill voice about Minitab the whole time. Project/presentation was more work than it had to be, and tests were not easy, either. Your mileage will vary.

Voice pierces the brain and induces primal instincts to lurch out against the evil of excruciating thoughtlessness and conformity. I have no idea why Hoell is still teaching. If you must take the course, the best thing to do is take a seat on the conveyer belt and leave humanity at the door.

(NOTE: 174 is different from 172) BizStat was an incredibly boring class on an interesting topic. 1:40 is tough to get through and the quizzes/case are lengthy and all about format. Takes no intelligence, simply adherence to a formula sheet. Overall, Prof. Hoell's packet was more helpful than the book in teaching the material, but not a good class

Nice lady and a good teacher - she just has nothing to teach. I had her for 2 cred stats and she had to stretch basically a week's worth of material over 3 months. Crystal clear on what she expects and very helpful. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK - you will never open it.

you will learn everything you need to know about stat. yes, she is demanding. yes, there is a lot to know for quizzes and finals. people complaining just didn't put the necessary work in. if you put the work into this class, there is no reason you can't come out with an A.

I hate her so much that sometimes I have to cover my ears and hum softly to myself to drown out her awful nagging voice. She trains us to be robots- exactly replicating her format. This the most anti-intellectual class at Gtown. she doesn't teach you statistics that are particular to business- she hardly even teaches statistics- just her template.

Her voice is very boring and the material is not interesting at all. But overall she tells you exactly what to do and is very straightforward. You don't have to go to class but there is a lot of information covered which makes homework easier. She is nice but wants things done her way. No midterm, 4 quizzes, a group presentation, and a final.

Jackie knows what she talks about in class. However, if you got to her outside of class and ask her a question she doesn't know how to explain things or see things differently. She can be demeaning and arrogant when it comes answering questions & everythings gotta be done her way. But if you do the extra credit and ok on the quizzes you'll do fine.

Follow directions and her requested format carefully and you should get an A or an A- (especially if you make good cheat sheets for tests). If you've taken stats before, you won't learn much new. Going to class isn't required, but I'd recommend it, even if painful at times b/c then you won't have to study much at all.

Probably your best bet for Stats. Class is incredibly dry and boring, but that's just the nature of stats. She's a fair grader, and if you don't screw up on the quizzes or final, you will get an A. Just do the homework and make sure you don't fall behind. Hoell is incredibly helpful during office hours so if you're falling behind, go see her!
