Fascinating subject and text. Driesen reads DIRECTLY from slides-should be an online course. Cancelled and didn't show up for several classes unannounced. MASSIVE lack of attendance. Exams rife with grammatical and functional flaws lead to much confusion and frustration. SEVEN ta's and still couldn't get timely, meaningful responses to anything.

HORRIBLE! The worst instructor ever and I mean ever! I took him thinking that people were probably a little harsh rating him, they werent. Reads powerpoints to the t and puts no imput. Rude, doesnt answer questions. DO NOT TAKE DRIESON. Please for your own sake. Tests are hard and dont make sense barely anyone passed. Bad, bad, bad instructor

The first two weeks of class he lectured about Quantum Mechanics... which I still don't know how all of it ties into Cognition. You have to learn everything yourself. He reads word for word from slides. Take home midterm and final, and can find answers word for word in the book. Take this if you want an easy A/GPA boost.

Dr. Driesen is a great professor! Lectures are fascinating, he is very knowledgable and makes difficult material understandable. He is flexible and understanding with students. Only issue with the class was some of the students in it were constantly complaining and whinning like 3 year old children, it was quite annoying...

This class was so hard! I had to READ! From the BOOK! And, get this! - LECTURE NOTES! To top it off I only had TWO WEEKS to do TAKE HOME multiple choice question tests. And the answers? You guessed it - I had to refer to the book AND lecture notes to get them, plus a two-hour in class study session with other students! WTF? College is hard.

Cognition. Worst academic experience EVER. Beyond just reading from slides, the material presented on the slides is convoluted jargon that he wrote 10 years ago and is irrelevant to the course. He has TAs do all of his work for him. Didn't even know what book was required for his own course. Then his TAs based all test questions on the book.

Reads from slides so he makes sure he's accurate. Getting older, will retire after this year. Very nice. Spends a lot of time talking about theories that are crucial to understanding later science, need to be very smart to understand the concepts. Low IQ's should not try his courses. Expect hard neuroscience not fluff pop psychology.

WORST teacher I have ever had at PSU. Reads directly from slides and doesn't actually answer questions in class. Changed the format from before, had the TA's make the test from the book. Provided different answers than the TA's when asked. AWFUL!!! Avoid this prof!

Dr. Driesen is very knowledgeable & experienced. He is kind. He answers student questions even if only partly on topic. He prefers that students not try to add material to his lectures - which are already jam packed. What you get out of his classes is proportional to the time and effort you put into them. Grades easily to encourage exploration.

The class freaked me out to begin with. I didn't understand a word, and he didn't do much to explain it. It was pretty labor intensive. With that in mind, the slides were a strong foundation for many hours of research. Inevitably, I learned more than any other class I took that semester. He doesn't expect an expert and he grades accordingly.

Emotions: Yes he reads his slides, but he is a fairly easy grader. We turned in one essay and if we got a 95% or higher than we didn't have take the final exam. And trust me, it was super easy to get a 95%. Class is a major bore. Nice man though.

People say to avoid him, I wouldn't go that far. While writing his papers and using his slides you can't help but learn the subject matter. And there's no pressure because the entire class is graded on those papers and he grades very easily. However, he does not make himself available at all, and a warning: DONT WASTE $ ON THE BOOK! Never used it.

AWFUL. His assistant LOST my midterm and when I asked him directly about it he said "I don't know what the hell to tell you". The asst still couldnt figure it out and Dr D had my test the whole time. Inconsistent, rude, condescending, boring, disorganized, uncategorically unprofessional. He's a jerk and an awful teacher.
