Comment:
Professor Hurwit is one of the most distinguished scholars in the field of ancient Greek art and architecture. He is extremely smart and knowledgeable, which can be a detriment to his lectures at times. It often feels as though I'm listening to an audiobook during the lectures. There is very little interaction and discussion in this class.

Comment:
Lectures are very fast pace and dense and very boring if you're not passionate about art history. There is a lot of materials and information that you need from the lectures for quizzes and midterms which was difficult to retain.

Lots of dates to memorize. All the info you need is in the lectures so you just gotta go, and the lecture slides are not posted online. The textbook isn't really necessary so just save yourself some $$$.

Mr. Hurwit is a wonderful teacher! He does lecture a lot in his classes, but he makes it fun, and you learn a lot. his tests/quizzes are straight forward and easy if you pay attention in class and study. I loved having him as a teacher!

Professor Hurwit knows a lot and because of this expects you to know a lot. Tests are graded very hard and there are a lot of dates to know. It was an interesting class but I would not suggest this class if it is just an arts and letters class for you.

Dr. Hurwit is extremely knowledgable and passionate about art history. His lectures take some getting used to as far as notes but after a while you get the hang of it. Pretty much anything you see on the tests and quizzes is on the monuments list in the syllabus. Take good notes and study hard and you should be fine. Try not to miss class.

Loved this class! It was always very interesting, and there were never any daily quizzes. Just one midterm and one final. Miss class and you're done for, however. Try to be there for every class and study image reserve!

Funny, extremely knowledgeable, pretty easy grader, but you can't miss class because he basically only tests on lecture material and does not post his slides. Also, he doesn't give enough historical context, I feel like a lot of information is kind of going over my head because I don't know enough about Ancient Greek History.

Prof. Hurwit is amazing, and clearly passionate about art history. This guy makes lectures into profound stories. At first I didn't know how to take notes on his style of lecturing, but once i got used to it, it is absolutely fascinating. Lecture is definitely mandatory, only two big tests, and he does NOT post slides online.

I mean, the guy's a genius. This is my third class with Hurwit. Take his class if you want to be intellectually stimulated. Don't bother with the textbook in any of his classes because he only tests on lecture material. Study what he emphasizes in class and you'll do great on tests. Ask him to do his donald duck impression if you ever take 204. :)

Go to the lectures! The only things that were on the quizzes and exams were the things that we went over during class. There is lots of memorization but if you like the subject then that won't be a problem. Go to class, take notes, and study.

Have to go to class to get a good grade, tests aren't hard but if you didn't attend the lectures, there is no way you will pass considering he doesn't post any lecture slides OR study guide material. Only a Midterm and a Final exam, not a demanding class and he knows what he is talking about!

Hurwit is amazing! His lectures are engaging and he is helpful outside of class. He is a genius when it comes to Greek art and you will be hard pressed to find a better professor unless you have Pollitt at Yale. His tests are not scary at all. This is my second class with him and I would take every ARH class with him if i could!

Be careful what you ask, if you ask something he disagrees with he will go off on you and it will suck. He has a temper and if you need help outside of class he is not particularly flexible or accommodating.

He is a good speaker, and at first I liked him but talking to him one on one in office hours you can tell that he views students as less and belittles their input

Prof. Hurwit is an absolutely captivating speaker, he has a good sense of humour, is thorough, and pretty much if you're not an idiot and you come to class and take notes, it's possible to get a B or above. You don't really need to do reading for his courses, because he is so good at teaching. I would have taken all my ArH with him if I could've!
