There's not enough room here, or anywhere, to say how great Jim Hood is. Best professor I have ever had. He wants everyone to succeed, treats every student with respect, pushes you hard to learn, encourages you as a student and as a human being. Jim Hood is a magical human being and anyone that gets a chance to meet him is blessed. <3

Jim Hood is a gem of a man and you should respect and laugh his dad jokes. I had an early morning class of his but he made it great. He's really passionate about what he teaches and expects you to put in work. I appreciated his attempt to teach us outside of the classroom by holding class outside some days.

Jim Hood is not only one of the best professors I've met but one of the best human beings. He is extremely caring about his students and their growth. He wants to know you personally and help you pass his class. However, he is a tough grader, makes you work for your grade and is strict about deadlines. He has a lot of passion and a lot of dad jokes

Comment:

Jim's unbridled enthusiasm for the material is unmatched in Guilford's English department. There was a lot of reading and large projects, but his puns and wonderful class discussions made it easy to follow. His group projects, reading selections, and class discussions gave me a completely new take on my writing style. Thanks so much Jim!

Comment:

Jim has to be one of the coolest professors on Guilford's campus. He brightens a room with his smile and his laugh echoes across the classroom. He may crack jokes during class and make corny remarks, but outside of the class he demands his students to challenge themselves in homework assignments and papers. He is a real gem!

Jim is an amazing professor. I would definitely recommend him to any student. He's a tough, but fair grader. He cares a lot about his students success. He is very approachable and easily accessible. He's hilarious, and often leaves you wishing classes were longer. I learned so much from him!

Jim was interesting, and full of passion. He is great on teaching students who are on his level. Jim is not strong when it comes to taking on students who are just as challenging as his course. Jim understands those of his own culture. HE told me there was no point in showing up to his class after not understanding my approach.

Jim is by far the best professor I have ever had at Guilford. I'm taking another class he's teaching, even though I'm not an English major, just because he's teaching it. If you have a chance to take a class with Jim, you should definitely do it.

Easily one of the greatest teachers I have ever had - and one of the greatest people I ever met! He expects A LOT of class preparation and participation. His classes are not easy, but you get a lot out of them. He also has an awesome sense of humour.

Comment:

Jim's Brit Lit II course got me up and excited at 8 am which is a rarity. Jim is a genuinely wonderful human being and professor and it is near impossible not to fall in love with him & the literature he loves and teaches. He helped me more than my own adviser ever did and I always felt that I could barge into his office with a question or problem.

Jim does not give out A's easily. If you want to make an A you should attend all classes, do your essay assignments early (he will give you suggestions and help you revise if you do this), make new discoveries and engage with abstract concepts while researching, and of course turn everything in on time. You will learn a lot if you pay attention. :)

Great guy and friend. However, took his CAPSTONE class & feel like I learned nothing. More of a book discussion group than class. Did little teaching, instead relied on class discussion. I don't feel prepared to be writer now, which is the point of an English major.
