For someone who isn't a Crim student and had to take this class for an elective, I would 10/10 recommend John for any class. His instructions are clear. Marks super easy. Totally respectable. Replies to your emails almost instantly. Accountable to his own mistakes. Super knowledgeable as he used to be a staff sergeant. And lectures are interesting.

One of the greatest professors I've had at Douglas. Gave feedback which improved my writing immensely which John emphasized on having great writing. Assignments are easy when you put some effort and thought it in. It's necessary to attend class to take in everything he says because it's important and it'll be on all the test and exams.

John was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is a recently retired RCMP sergeant who is well respected in the field. His guest lectures consisted of RCMP members from gang and drug enforcement as well as a member of CFSEUBC. His class was very interesting and I was sad when the semester ended. I highly recommend this teacher.

The material you learn in the course is very applicable to real life, which makes studying & attending lectures a lot more interesting especially since John uses his own personal experiences as an RCMP officer as examples! As long as you read the textbook & put effort into studying, you will be fine! The tests are fair, clear, & straightforward.

Hands down a great teacher! He has been in the RCMP for like 27 years so he definitely knows his stuff. He integrates a lot of real life stories and examples which makes it interesting. He gets side-tracked sometimes and doesn't always use visuals but the subject matter is usually engaging so that makes up for it! His tests are fair.

John was one of the best profs I've had so far. He is an experienced RCMP officer so he knows what he's talking about, willing to answer any question/offer help, tells interesting stories, brings it guests to further explain subjects, and his exams are open book. he mostly tests off the text and not lecture. Would take again, sense of humor too!

Really good, well spoken teacher. Brings in guest speakers relevant to what you are learning. Tests are basically from the text book (CRIM1120) and require writing for CRIM4440. Make sure you get your papers proofread, especially for the higher level class.
