Comment:
Dr. Rohrkemper is not only a great professor, but a great guy. He is willing to help and wants you to succeed. Although some lectures can be drawn out, the passages were overall interesting and Dr. Rohrkemper really knows his stuff. My favorite thing about the class was his ability to relate the works we read to current events.

Comment:
Doesn't use a rubric when he grades papers and if you ask him to explain your grade he stumbles around a lot and gives vague answers. Reading isn't actually that important as long as you have the plot information and themes down. Best comments on a paper I even got was when I basically copy-pasta'd spark notes. Not a hard class, just annoying.

A truly interesting man. He is the quintessential eccentrically funny literature professor. His classes are fun and engaging, he laughs at himself which is funny. Do the reading and you're golden. The books are usually interesting. Class is 90% discussion. He took us to the ren-fair and drank from a goblet. We also did the 10min hamlet, it was fun.

His grading system is just confusing and makes no sense. When it comes to assignments he is unclear and it is very hard to comprehend what he even wants from you. I mean the class is easy all you really do is read the stories out loud so technically you don't really need to even read. It's an okay class.

He is indeed both funny and interesting, as well as being unbelievably well-read and knowledgable about the class material. He seems to be more interested in his own lectures than hearing students' opinions, but at the same time, it's never a boring class.

Put simply, John Rohrkemper is the man. You'll get a lot of insight into his life and the interesting people he's met and all of the cool things he's done. He's very supportive and genuinely interested in his classes. You can pass by reading the sparknotes, but you learn a boatload more if you really read for his classes.

Easy going class. Have to write response papers based on the books, not that hard. A lot of in class reading. Likes to stick to his own ideas and interpretations of the books. Papers aren't hard. And he does not give back tests/papers in a timely manner.

Not a terrible teacher, but his grading is bewildering. I always attended & regularly participated in class, and never got a grade below a B+. Yet, somehow, my final grade was a B. He'll also tell you to "write for yourself," but I got better grades when I wrote for him. I think he has questionable taste in what constitutes good writing.

Loose and fun class atmosphere. Sometimes a little random and hard to follow, and he harps on certain points alot. Also a bit random in grading. But overall a nice and energetic professor

He assigns a ton of reading sometimes if the class gets behind, but he's really cool about letting people speak up and express their own opinions during lectures. Sometimes he's kinda repetitive but it helps you remember stuff.
