Comment:
I got a C so its not like i completely failed but this professor does not understand that people have lives outside his class. Mandatory Saturday field trips, project due that requires you to go all over kentucky to find things, etc... also told us right before the test that most of the test is stuff he didnt talk about that was in the book.

Doesn't use blackboard so you're out of luck if you want to track your grade or need to review the powerpoints. Lectures cover entirely too much content to keep up withcomprehend. You only have time to write down either whats on the powerpoint OR what he says out loud, but you will be tested on both. Terrible on grading.

He is a really nice guy, but he takes his passion way too seriously. This class was a 100 level class, and the amount of information was overwhelming. He also gives you some information that he doesn't explain well, and asks you to explain it in assignments. Not really worth taking this class.

His class was difficult. He let it be known that no one would walk away with an A. I struggled in the class but I thought it would be easy because that is what I had heard. He and his TA were extremely helpful to me and other few selects in the class and for that I am grateful. Just go to him and let him know you need help.

Nice man. The class was extremely hard for 200 level. If you ask he is willing to help.

Lectures are just powerpoint presentations. Make sure you write down the study questions, the test comes straight from them. The book was useless. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he pays attention to who comes to class. He is helpful if you ask. It was my hardest class of the semester. You definitely have to take time to understand the material.

Don't take this class. The lectures are boring and the tests are hard. I have studied the notes given during class and I haven't been able to do well on the tests. He's a little over enthusiastic about a very bland subject and the power point slides given are not helpful for tests.

Comment:
Class structure is basically powerpoint with study questions. Do the study questions (even though they aren't for a grade) because there will be a test question for every study question. Tests are multiple choice. Phillips will answer questions if you go to his office hours. He is very fair and has a lot of experience in the geo field.

He is actually a nice guy, although sitting in on his class you wouldn't know it. His lectures simply got me out of bed at 8 am, and then I slept thru them. It is hard to keep up with him sometimes. He does give study questions each lecture that he then uses to make the exam. Attendance isnt required, and the book is rarely, if ever used.

Considering I was late to almost every class, slept through a good number of them and still got a B, I wouldn't say this class is terribly hard. If you paid much attention in high school science classes and don't care to do a little work, this is exactly what a 100-level class ought to be. Phillips knows what he's talking about, too.

he is very smart but he sometimes forgets that he is teaching a 100 level course. but he forces you to learn and i became interested in the subject and decided to look into geography. i have had six geo professors and he has been the best.

He will help you if you show you are genuinely concerned for your education, powerpoint slides, pacing-style lecturing in big classroom, He is a real Geographer and Researcher so he knows what he's talking about. If you are interested in the subject, he will teach you valuable information. Corny Jokes, Good guy.

Found this class to be one of my most challenging. Nice guy, but material is much too difficult for a 100 level class attended by non-Geography majors. Tests are extremely difficult, but professor is willing to help you understand material.
