Comment:

Dr. Belew's a gem: you'd think she'd be at an ivy. She's very smart but not snobby. She'll analogize hard topics, do hands-on object lessons, and jot colored notes on the board. She doesnt expect you to know everything; she does want you to work hard and take advantage of her help. Shell go the extra mile to help and seems to truly care for you.

Micro is not any easy class, but Dr. Belew offers plenty of assignments to help you keep your grade up. She makes herself available as much as she can to ask questions, and she is very knowledgeable about the subject. I would take her again if I had to, she is a very good professor. Labs are really fun too!

I enjoyed Professor Belew's class. It was hard work, but she provides homework worksheets to help you better understand a specific area. Do not be afraid to ask questions because she has always helped anyone who has had one.

Horrible teacher! She expects students to have a higher knowledge base than what she or the book provides - which is a basic understanding. She will ramble off topic which makes it hard to follow the lectures. The information was rushed and unorganized. She gives you nothing to help you study for the tests which are extremely hard.

Dr. Belew is so amazing at teaching microbiology. She will answer any question you have, and make sure you understand. Her humor makes the class fun! However, you have to put the work in because she is a tough but fair grader. If you are willing to put in the work, you will learn a lot and get a good grade.

Karla is a great teacher and she cares about how you are doing in the class. The class is difficult, but as long as you do all of the reading and study well you should be fine. The labs aren't terribly fun, but she makes them more interesting. She is entertaining and pretty funny at times. Do the reading! If you don't the class will be confusing.

Do not take a class with this professor!!! She tells you to use the objectives as study guides for exams and they're virtually worthless! She expects students to have a higher knowledge base than what she or the book provides - which is a basic understanding. Don't expect to get an A in this class. Even my most excelled peers are struggling.

She is a fantastic professor. Karla is always willing to help, just put in the work! She is incredibly intelligent and wants her students learn. Amazingly, she takes into account her student's mental health, if they have a problem. As a student who is mentally ill, this is a huge plus.

Super tough class- and very hard material. She knows her 'stuff' and doesn't let you forget it! Be prepared to study hard- the test are tough. She does assign a little extra credit and homework, but isn't very approachable. Has a dry sense of humor- Lab is fun, but pay a attention. Hard grader! Hard Class! Tough teacher!

Awesome teacher. Makes herself available to help you succeed. Attend class and read the book. The prerequisites for the class aren't completely necessary as prior knowledge for the class. Make sure you follow all of the study guides and answer everything. Expect examples and topics covered in class to show up on the test. HIGHLY recommended!

Karla Belew is, by far, the best teacher I've ever had. She is creative, helpful, knowledgeable, and brilliant. The course content is not easy, nor are her tests and homework, but because of the challenges I feel I have had success. Students who complain about the work load aren't willing to put in the effort.I hope to have her again next year.

Horrible teacher!!!Class is designed to make people fail so they do not advance in biology to pursue nursing career. Grading is terrible, if she likes you your grade is better than others in same group who is doing group project. The study guides are completely useless she gives you. The reviews she does have nothing to do with what is on the test.

Horrible teacher. Does not teach. Purpose of this class is to weed out people striving to enter nursing program.She gives you study guides to do which has nothing to do with test.Grading is horrible. D2L grade different(lower) than grade she actually gives on papers returned to you.

This was the hardest class I ever took! She's challenging because she teaches multiple classes and will ramble off the topic. There is no extra credit in her class and she doesn't accept late work. Her policy are unacceptable to me. Beware that if you take her class don't take anything else or your likely to fail.

I am a senior at UCCS majoring in biology. This class is NOT easy. Students should take both of the REAL gen bio classes before they take this class (115 and 116 at ppcc I think). This class requires a lot of work but you can get an A! This is a great class for medical field majors, and includes what students need to know.

I have to give this professor a poor rating. She was not at all conducive to my learning style and was really ambiguous/vague. This class should not be taken lightly, however, this professor seems to forget that she's dealing with mainly pre-nursing students that aren't previously keen in Biology. Content was very muddled and rushed.

She is an amazing teacher! She tries to make class enjoyable and is funny. Very easy to talk to and very helpful. She is very fair, but don't take this class lightly. It's a hard class and requires lots of extra work. There is lots of homework and pre-labs, but they will help increase your grade. Take her only if you are willing to do the work.
