Comment:
There is no mystery to getting a good grade with Prof Wilson: pay close attention to what he says about the texts in class, then write your exam and paper responses in clear, direct prose with his lecture material for content. The more you remember, the better. Two classes with him, As both times.

A rather terrible prof, he does not express his expectations from the students in the least bit, and grades very very severely as well, on top of making the exams rather difficult to begin with. He's without a doubt a professor who doesn't care whether students fail the class. Would never take another class with him again.

I would not recommend this professor. He is a very hard marker but provides no clear guidelines on what he wants. A very unrealistic English Professor.

HARD marker but I enjoyed his lectures immensely. He was very knowledgeable, conveyed the subject matter effectively and would even take on different personas when reading passages. Such a kind man who gets a lot of flack for his hard marking. All you have to do is ask him for help! He will do all he can to help you out.

Passionate about what he teaches, but unclear about his expectations for students and comments on essays are unhelpful. Very hard marker, nice person.

I really enjoyed this class. A lot of people complained about grades but, like everything else, you get out what you put in. Effort is rewarded. He is very very helpful so take advantage of it. A serious english student can handle this course.

He's extremely intelligent, but he isn't very personable. I thoroughly enjoy listening to him, once I can get past the useless drabble. He's completely condescending and quite arrogant. He makes unnecessary comments and undermines the intelligence of his student. His expectations are far too high. Avoid if possible!

Passionate, knows what he's talking about; personable; tries to link works to modern-day contexts students are familar with, wants us to understand and engage with the material. To the whiners with bad grades: if you can't write properly, you won't pass this ENGLISH course. It doesn't matter that you're brilliant if no one can understand you.

Professor Wilson is a tough marker and a bit condescending at times, but he will try his best to help you when you ask. He genuinely cares about the subject he teaches, and it shows during his lectures. He seems to expect a bit much out of his students at times, and is ruthless when marking. I'd avoid him unless you want to work your butt off.

It's very rare that I go to a class and absorb absolutely nothing. I think he's very knoweldgeable about the subject but terrible at conveying it to the students. I would prefer taking a course with him in which I already had extensive knowledge about the material.

The class lectures are hard to comprehend, and it is almost impossible to make any kind of connection between what he is saying and the work. He is a very hard marker and has unreasonable expectations of students.

Loved this class. Anyone complaining about him should not be an English student in the first place. He (rather understandably) gets exasperated at many students' inability to put a coherent sentence together. Your grade will reflect your mastery of the English language (and rightfully so). If you can't write, be prepared for a rude awakening.

Ridiculously difficult marker. Going to his office doesn't help as he talks in circles and is condescending. Even with attending every class, I ended up confused and with a bad mark. It's all great and fun that he knows his stuff, but how useful is it when you are expected to be as perfect as he thinks he is? Avoid him.

Having graded my share of first year essays, I can safetly say that many undergrads enter university without basic writing skills. Some of the essays I have read are just plain incomprehensible. So, don't shoot the messenger. If Prof. Wilson gave you a 50% it's probably because he couldn't understand what you were talking about.

I have to agree he is very intelligent but he's condescending, mean, ruthless with marks. My first year, and first essay i've gotten back 40%. I work hard, very hard. So for eveyone who said you have to work hard to get good marks in his class, you're wrong. He made me feel like****. AVOID THIS CLASS IF POSSIBLE!

He returned the classes essays with over half of them being 50% (he bumped them up from fails). For a first year class this is too harsh! I'm still taking another course with him next semester, as I find him to be knowledgeable, and he does indeed make you want to work hard, if only to show him up!

he's got a geeky friend's dad cuteness to him. he brings too many books to class for you to flip through while ignoring his lecture. but he's very enthusiastic and thinks everyone else finds this era to be fascinating. he tries, and the effort is appreciated. some of the poems are pretty good too.
