Ken Tisa is easily one of the best teachers at MICA, and considering the established staff, that's seriously saying something. It doesn't matter your background, interests, medium, or method--he'll give you some of the best guidance and thought-provoking critiques you will ever have. He's the real deal. Ken was one of the best painting teachers I've ever had. He was particularly good at helping students develop their own perspective and he was fairly demanding when it came to execution. In addition to be a good teacher, Ken is also a really cool guy.

I had Ken for my foundation Painting I class- I am not a painter AT ALL. Ken is so awesome, understanding, and open-minded. I still not a fan for painting today- but i highly highly recommend Ken to everyone out there.

had him for drawing II 1st semester freshman year. He is really open and encouraging but not really critical. He makes the same comment about drawings every crit (about edges touching), and the rest are nice comments. He is really nice but did not help me to improve conceptually or technically. Had a really laid back class that semester though.

Ken is one of the best teachers I've had at MICA. He's very open to the way you interpret his assignments, and helps you think about your work more conceptually. He's sweet and funny and pretty much awesome in general. He didn't teach us technique per se, but I definitely grew and learned a lot in that class.

Ken is an interesting teacher. He is the opposite of traditional so if your looking for technique this is not the guy for you. He teaches a way of thinking and lets you do what you want with his assignments. I was in a drawing class and people did paintings, collage, fiber, fire drawings and sculpture.

I think I was in Ken's first class at MICA. One of the best teachers I had there. He's not the guy who's going to tell you how, but he'll really push you. I LOVED critiques in his class. Great guy, cool artist too.

Taking him as a freshman was an amazing experience. He's a wonderful teacher who encourages you to do what YOU want. Can be a bit intimidating at first, since he makes it clear that there will not be much technical 'teaching' but I still learned more than I have in any of my other foundation classes and would joyfully take from him again.

I loved ken. He was an amazing teacher, now that I'm out i feel like there is a hole in my heart. haha. but really, he really got our class involved, got me into lots of different artists that I didn't know about before, and in general was just wonderful. I would totally recommend taking his class.

I really liked Ken as a person (he's very caring,) but I found him to be a useless teacher. I was lost and needed direction and he just kept telling me to experiment. Even when I asked him for specifics, like what mediums I should try, he just told me to buy a bunch randomly. He wasn't able to get the class to participate in crits at all.

EXCELLENT teacher--but lazy students be warned: he's not going to like you if you don't actually make a valiant effort to do work. he loves very obsessive work. FANTASTIC critiques--really gets the whole class involved. take tisa for anything. he helps you grow.

Awesome teacher and human being. Very inspiring, passionate, enthusiastic, and genuinely caring. He still tries to catch up with his students and see how they're doing. Supports anything you do and really tries to help you with your art. Take any class with him, he's fantastic.
